Fresh in NYC also has an overwhelmingly white playlist in a market where nearly half the listeners are black, Hispanic, Asian or Middle Eastern. I suppose they do this as a contrast to WLTW which plays a lot of Urban AC artists, disco classics and Motown.
My guess is WMJX is just using some of the Fresh slogans and positioning statements as a guard against some station in the Boston market becoming a Fresh clone and threatening Magic 106.7.
But actually, Fresh has plateaued in NYC, if the latest ratings are any indication. Fresh didn't quite make the top 10, either 12+ or 25-54. I believe it was ahead of WLTW in the 18-34 race, but not by much.
And now, with an early PPM Arbitrend, WLTW is back to #1, and has made improvements 25-54. That said, WLTW will never quite be the station it was when it had the Soft AC format all to itself. I guess WMJX has to deal with Soft AC stations in its suburbs (WSRS, WZID and WPLM) but not in its city of license.
