Eng friend loves this.for remotes ,bring your phone, your laptop,must have broadband connection.Call the station and BOOM you are on the air,sounds MUCH better than cell phone.20.00 a year, is that cheap enough for ya...

That's not bad - but some of my engineering pals are using Skype for their remotes. And Skype is free plus you you don't to buy specific hardware. Just have a computer at each end.

other end does not have to have magicjack.this is actually a better deal than skype.you can call from magic to anyone is the us and canada,19.95 per year.Plus soon you will be able to use your home phone number and do away with the home landline.My eng friend brings an old princess phone,laptop and the magicjack in the usb,connected to broadband.of course you can do a headset if you choose.He calls the station phone and away we go.says the quality is as good as regular land line.Skype calls are free skype to skype,otherwise they are not free.This is a skype killer .

Magicjack=VOIP

Magicjack is VOIP, nothing more, nothing less. It's 'feature' is that it plugs into a type 2 USB jack and then a phone plugs into it (though you can also use the soundcard in the computer and the dialer on the desktop if you want to).

The 'dialer' sits there and flashes ads at you and it pops up whenever you make or receive a call. What I do is to drag it mostly off the screen.

One BIG thing that Magicjack does do is work great as a hybrid if you use your soundcard-there is no bleed through from send to return whatsoever.

This is because VOIP is a two way service.

Also, Magicjack is cheap-42 dollars for the jack and the first year's service and 19.95 a year after then for unlimited calling to the USA and Canada and they give you an incoming number as well-though right now their rate centers are limited.

You're better off doing remotes with a couple of Barix boxes if you can afford it, sound quality is much better and unless you can't get a static IP at your remote site, you can use it almost anywhere.

did first remote saturday.just called the station landline,put us on the air,awesome quality,eats the cell phone's lunch big time.client was amazed at this device.not bad for 20 bucks a year...no worry about packets or delay as with alot of ip gear.
