Although I thought that the Bob Carlisle song was pretty dreadful, some of the other singers and bands produced pretty solid pop songs, so I can understand why they crossed over. And there's no reason why they shouldn't -- pop music is about songs, and that's always provided an opportunity for songs with different styles and different content to hit. It's also nothing new, as the rock group Kansas did some overtly Christian songs in their heyday, although they weren't a "Christian" band due to the fact that the band membership was split when it came to religion. In fact, the conflict between the Christian band members and the rest of the band did eventually cause a split. They sure did in the '90s and early 2000s, when Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, Kathy Troccoli, Bob Carlisle, MercyMe, etc. had pop crossover hits. Plus groups like Lifehouse, Creed, Switchfoot, Sixpence None the Richer, etc. which tried to have it both ways by claiming to be "Christians in a band, not a Christian band".
The recently played songs listed on their web site are all CCM. No secular pop.I've heard The Fish in Atlanta claims to do this.
Well, then things have changed since I read this. Maybe. The recently played songs listed on their web site are all CCM. No secular pop.
They still do it apparently with a wierd mix of Christian CHR and normal Hot AC/AC music.Positive Music | 106.9 HOME.fm - was doing this for many years.
It’s the same with all of “The Fish” stations… they are 100% Christian Contemporary Music now but they used to mix in an occassional secular pop/AC song on occassion in the 2010s but not very often. The recently played songs listed on their web site are all CCM. No secular pop.
