Mainstream Rock

More than likely you will hear 92.5 and 103.7 incorporate 97.1 core artists into their playlists. The proverbial throw a bone to disenfranchised rockers. The Metroplex Rock Market of 98KZEW and Q102 (circa 1981) has changed and will not return.

As in the words of Metallica: "Sad But True"

As stated above, KZPS, Alt, and to an extent Jack and KXT would play select rock bands into their playlist that were also played on The Eagle. Sadly, I would wish that 93.3 would return to a harder-edged classic rock (like The Bone circa 2002-2009) or adopt a mainstream rocker format that Cumulus is pretty familiar with from other markets (Buffalo, Atlanta, San Francisco) but I highly doubt it would work in today's society.

the days of Dallas being a hard rock friendly market died the moment Dan & Alfie were fired from 97.1, that when i knew the end was near.

again, i said it before, Spotify, Pandora, Audacy, iHeartRadio, TuneIn as well as SiriusXM & Music Choice for those who still has cable or DirecTV is the option for hard rock in DFW unless you have a HD Radio tuner and can pick up 97.1 HD2.

What about JACK?

What about JACK?

Unless things have really gone south for Audacy, Jack is the least likely to see significant changes. It was one of the two highest billers in the cluster and had the cluster's highest margin not long ago. Been awhile since I've heard what’s been going on there, but Jack outbilled several higher rated stations in that cluster, including KLUV. Audacy would be crazy to tinker with one of its biggest cash cows in the market.

Alt 103.7 is playing a lot more rock-based stuff than they were just a couple of weeks ago. They're sounding more like 105.7 The Point/St. Louis lately, however without nearly as much current-based rock.

There's still room for a "The Rock Station" kind of presentation in the market however, with a meat-and-potatoes mixture of popular Classic/Mainstream/Alternative/Active Rock. Something along the lines of Rock 95.5/Chicago etc (hopefully without the soft rock tracks or whatever). It would not be surprising to see 93.3 do this, as 93X.

Those of you posting about playlists and using only the station frequency or calls to identify them need to take a bit more time to explain to the larger numbers of forum members an example or two. I live in the Southwest and have been Chicago only passing through so I have no idea what Rock 95.5 plays. Just a suggestion.

I have their sample hour from AllAccess and yeah they are definitely becoming a soft version of The Point. Allers is moving exactly as I expected him too.

1. Coldplay - “Clocks”
2. Maneskin - “Beggin” (R)
3. Stone Temple Pilots - “Big Empty”
4. Linkin Park - “Somewhere I Belong”
5. The Offspring - “The Kids Aren’t Alright”
6. Highly Suspect - “Natural Born Killer” (C)
7. Capital Cities - “Safe and Sound”
8. Green Day - “Longview”
9. Paramore - “This Is Why” (C)
10. Default - “Wasting My Time”
11. Red Hot Chili Peppers - “Californication”
12. Blink-182 - “EDGING” (C)
13. Third Eye Blind - “Jumper”
14. Jimmy Eat World - “The Middle”

Not as heavy as The Point but they have a number of songs in their library that other Audacy Alts don’t have. These songs and the Highly Suspect current are clearly meant to please the KEGL listeners looking for a new primary preset.

They’re eventually going to need more personalities, especially in the morning, but they have a good foundation in both format lanes and they’re clearly trying to keep a new Active competitor from showing up.

It’s about time for DFW to get an “X”-branded station. I like the 93X station that Cumulus operates in Minneapolis. It’d be nice if they could launch something like that down here.

Idk listening to the freak, unless everyone is hearing something I’m not, I got pretty tired of the station after a few days. I just feel like the Eagle will be back sooner than people think 🤣
