There has been much talk here about automation systems, and I'd like to share another find. Another poster on this board, Charlie, introduced me to mAirList, a German system. I pulled down demo and what a neat product. The most impressive feature is the ability to completely customize the GUI. This would be very handy to keep a customer happy.
To customize, you simply click on a utility and drag the elements into whichever configuration you wish. Want a clock and countdown timers? Add them. How about an EOM overlay that will notify the announcer? Add that too. Are the players too small or the colors not to your liking? Just drag them to the size that you wish and change the colors. There are so many choices that you can pretty well set it up to look and function how you wish. You can even add "skins" so that it will look like and function like other automation systems--I've seen Dalet and Scott configurations.
As far as I can tell, this system is NOT a cheap DJ type automation. To the contrary, it seems to be a stable, professional system. The drawback is that it doesn't have a voicetrack module. I'm not sure whether it records or has switcher interface support because I'm still learning the system. It does however accept playlists from StationPlaylist Creator (uses .m3u files).
The default configuration is quite weak, but don't get turned off by that. Also, if you do download, the drag-and-drop configuration is available in only the new 3.1 release, I believe.
I know that this system is used in Europe. Is anyone here in the US using it?
Thanks..
