MAJIC 102.7 DID SOMETHING GOOD THEN DID SOMETHING STUPID

I was driving home and i heard Majic 102.7 play and ALBUM VERSION!!!! OH MY GOD I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT!! They played Elvin Bishop's "Fool Around and Fell in Love" THE ALBUM VERSION!! Nobody playes the ALBUM VERSION of that song.

Then of course Majic did something stupid!! The next song was "Start Me Up" by the Rolling Stones (1982)?????when that song was over the jock says "The Greatest Hits of the 60's and 70's Majic 102.7. Majic should stick to 60's and 70's and NO 80'S!! It makes then sound like they can't figure out what year the songs are and makes thenselves look stupid!!

Personally I like the album version of "Fooled Around and Fell in Love", although I understand your point about the long version possibly being out of place on an oldies or classic hits station.

Regarding playing 80s music on a station that promotes itself as "The Greates Hits of the 60s and 70s", some stations image as "The Greatest Hits of the 60s, 70s and More". That way the station can get away with playing an occassional 80s hit while avoiding sounding contradictory if otherwise only the 60s and 70s are mentioned in the station imaging.

Actually, "Start Me Up" was 1981. That said, Majic 102.7 is really a pretty good station all in all. I don't get to listen as often as I once did, but I still like the station. Mostly I listened when Vance Phillips was on during the week.

As an aside, the segue makes perfect sense to me.

Majic plays a number of 80's songs, and I'm surprised it isn't more. Of course,
Tom Kent plays even more on Saturday nights.

Surprising that Majic doesn't have some of the South Florida top 40 talents of the 70s 80s, seems like a natural...

Well they could always use a "Mark In The Dark Shands" from from the good ole day's at Y-100 FM, that's a special name that South Florida radio hasn't heard in a long long time......!

My guess is that "Fooled Around..." was still in the system from when I used it on Super 70's Sunday Night on Majic 3 years ago. Great that they're using it. It blows away the single version.

I once read that "Start Me Up" was recorded in 1978 and was going to originally be on the Stones "Some Girls" LP. So technically it could be a 70s song, not that the station would ever give it that much thought.

Joel's album in 1983 contained songs that were "throwbacks"---"Uptown Girl" had a 4 Seasons sound, & "The Longest Time" reminds one (me, anyway) of "So Much in Love" by the Tymes. The video for "Tell Her About It" really replicated the Ed Sullivan Show (with lookalike Will Jordan, to boot!). Likely Majic thought it felt good in the playlist.

I think the most recent tune they play with a non-oldie feel is "Dancin' in the Dark" by Springsteen.

They also have *some* 50s music, but really maybe only about 5 or 6 tunes.

cd

Do they play Beach Boys-Kokomo? A lot of oldies stations do even if it's from 1988. I don't care to hear it, not so much because of the release date but mostly because of how burned out it is.

Oh that's right, I do believe they play Kokomo! Wonder if it'd be played if it was from a 1-hit wonder.

The only one I can think of is La Bamba by Ritchie Valens They really got rid of a lot of songs in the past few years especially from the 60's. Can anyone name any other 50's songs that Majic plays?

Really? Then it was removed. I heard it maybe 2-3 years ago? Not 50s, but I did hear "Devil in Disguise" by Elvis about a month ago.....they're not big on Elvis anymore outside of "Burning Love" or "Suspicious Minds," due the the years they came out.

I don't listen to them all that much.

I'm 62 and they sure don't play a lot of songs anymore that I grew up with and would like to still hear on there.
But that's OK since I have a massive tape collection. My dinosaur tail is showing.
