Majic 94.1 is now switched to a religious station

I did notice their website still was playing Charlie Brown. Will that site be taken down too? I guess oldies will never be back in charlotte again.

It's now the satellite-fed Contemporary Christian station K-Love. Did anyone see this coming?

And...most of conversation regarding this is going on over at the Raleigh-Greensboro board.

This change caught me by surprise, but i'm sure EMF Media, who owns "K-Love", had be wanting to put a station on in the Charlotte market for quite sometime, and with the move of the tower to Rowan County soon, and a power reduction to about
43,000 watts, they may cover fewer listeners, but now Charlotte will be served by three contemporary christian stations, WTHZ(or whatever it will become) WRCM, and WMIT.

Did anybody see this coming? I have mentioned this several times on the boards that Majic would have a format change and it would be religion. As far as EMF getting into Charlotte, the tower that Mr. Hilton is attempting to construct in Rowan County has hit every stumbling block that could be put in front of them. Mr. Hilton has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in this quest and it appears it may all go for naught for there may never be a tower built. The company has filed law suites on top of law suites and have lost at every attempt. There was a recent attempt for the city of Mooresville to annex the farmer's property in Rowan County and that too has crashed and burned. I have said a number of times there was a great opportunity in the Charlotte market for a good Classic Hits / Oldies station to take the place of WTHZ. While the station had a fair signal in some parts of Charlotte it did not cover the Metro but had some pretty good numbers. Full circle? I do feel sorry for the staff that got "telephone" calls yesterday to inform them they were out of work!

I noticed that the new ID didn't mention Charlotte and was touting the station's 100,000 watts.

They should have gone with their Air 1 format. There are way way too many Cont. Christian stations around Charlotte and the Triad......and I like the format! 91.3 and their slew of translators...91.9, 96.5, 98.3, 106.9....I am sure I am miisng some!

Wow! Home sick for a week, and THIS happens! If I wanted to listen to Contemporary Christian music, I would buy the stuff--PLEASE! I kept thinking something was wrong w/my radio before I figured out they had changed formats.

I am going to miss listening to the oldies--I live in Virginia on the NC line, and I could listen to majic on long trips to Roanoke or coming home from work at nights.

I was really bummed when 93.1 went from oldies to country (just like we needed another country station in this region), and was so happy when 94.1 aired as oldies. What precipitated this change? Had anyone heard it was coming? I AM NOT GOING TO LISTEN TO THIS STUFF!

I guess 40 & 50 somethings just don't have enough market clout to keep an oldie station on air--and AM isn't going to do me any good either.

I just wish that we had a KLOVE affiliate here in columbia to compete with WMHK. I like the personalities better and their music selection is better and ahve to listen to them on line and it would be nice if we had a local affiliate here.

The way EMF keeps buying stations up you might just have one sooner then you think... I could see one popping up at either 92.1 or 94.3 in Cola-Town... CC1

There have been rumors on this site for quite some time. The Charlotte Observer said the station was losing money because adverisers can't be bothered with old people. There are rumors right now that WCOG (1320) will be oldies, though that is AM. WZGV (730) can be picked up in some areas.

This station is playing absolute garbage. I'm not sure where I heard K-LOVE was softer than other Contemporary Christian stations, but that's obviously wrong.

Now if I want Christian music, 93.5 FM, 930 AM and 95.5 FM play it some of the time. Just west of here there's 94.5 FM on weekends. That's MUSIC.

Yaaaaa!!! ;D Maybe this will silence all you old farts on this message board who STILL thinks oldies is a viable format. My God will you just let Magic go!!! Some of you acted like it was the greatest station EVER.

It wasn't, but we want music that actually sounds like music. Which K-Love ISN'T.

And we're not interested in what is and is not viable. We are entitled to good music.
