Majic it's not...

I don't care what the name is...it's not Majic or Magic, not even close. More like more of the same burned out late '60's and '70's over reserched songs that can be heard on the two AC stations in Charlotte.

Agreed... I'm out of the area at the moment, but I've looked over their playlist via yes.com. The new 94.1 even played "Funkytown" and "What's Love Got To Do With It?" Had I heard those songs on Magic 96.1, I would have thought that I was on another station.

Any jingles, sweepers, or anything? Hopefully, the new Majic will compile a decent on-air staff. To my knowledge, the personalities from Oldies 93 are still available. Are there really any Magic personalities still without a job that would want to work over at 94.1? Boomer was at 'MQX, Shafer and Egg have jobs, and most of the other Magic DJs at the end (Kain and Drew) were voicetracked. I'm not sure about Brother Dave.

I guess I'll have to hear for myself next week when I make it back to Charlotte. I'm assuming that K and Lite will be jingling the bells full-time by then, so at least there's an alternative...

Mike,

I do agree with what you are saying. I listened to them this afternoon and think they sounded like your typical classic hits stations. Mostly popular classic rock songs from the 60s and 70s. However, Charlotte doesn't have anything like that. 95.7 the ride would never play any format like that. They play mostly deep cuts from overplayed classic rock artists. 106.1 might play some. But, they are really an adult standards station.

Charlotte needs a new set of radio stations badly.

As I said on your other thread, they did this with their 80's format a few years ago. No real suprise to hear they are doing it again with their Oldies. I live in another state. Can someone record an aircheck of this and post it on the forum? Thanks.

I take it back, they have played some good songs tonight. Maybe they are still dubbing them into the system....?

Sounds much better then the crap they were playing.

Now if their engineer could open up the sound a little and give it some "highs". Sounds a bit muddy to these old ears.

Their playlist is a bit staid. Heard Starbucks Moonlight Feels Right 3x in about 15hrs. Sounds like a selector issue to me. All kinds of great oldies that SHOULD get played that never see the light of day. Also a little too much 80's, an occasional track from that decade fits, but it seems about 30% of their format is based in that decade, too much. Better than nothing though.

Unfortunately, when I was in Charlotte (very close to Pineville), I was unable to hear Majic 94.1 often because of signal issues. It covers part of the Charlotte metro area well, but other parts are still without a listenable FM oldies station. What I did hear of Majic was not bad, but it still doesn't fully replace Magic 96.1 (signal and music).

I actually sort of liked it when I was in the car for a long time and WIST wasn't clear enough and I was frustrated with WNMX. This can't be a good sign.
