as i am writing this. . .all of the sudden in Overtime. . .WPHY-Trenton 920-ESPN radio at exactly 12:40 A.M. switched from the Westwood One NCAA basketball feed to the national ESPN radio feed. were their computers on a timer. what a way to blow it. reminds of N.Y. Jets vs. Oakland. . .Heidi game. someone at 920-ESPN. . .wake up. you just cut off one of the most exciting games in this year's tournament.

A college basketball game took over FIVE HOURS to play?

Double header. First game started around 7:30, second game started at 10ish.

They both went into O.T.

After the 'Nova win, I forgot about that second game. Two games in O/T does become lenthy!

I would have thought the WW1 tone at the end of the games would have "told" the computer to switch to the next program. Could a wrong tone have been sent that would trigger the change?

They cut out of the second game on Saturday abruptly as well. The game had ended but there were probably some interviews (and some spots) still to come.

I've just assumed that the whole thing is automated. Maybe there is a live board op for non-ESPN broadcasts who simply decided to leave, thinking "no one is listening anyway."

(off topic) COMCAST on demand is $$$ and this still happens

On a very related note, but rather off topic, for all the money we pay for on DEMAND CABLE ($90 a month) I dont think that once, let alone twice in a row, my game reruns should have been cut off at 120 minutes, in games that happened to go way over time. The games ran over, one because of the longest game of the year (4 OTs), and one because a Penn cheerleader fell and broke her neck, delaying the game. It's bad for Comcast, for their customers to have to watch an exciting game then get to the two hour mark and be dropped off. I called them and said how about keeping 180 minutes saved, since 2 hours is a tight squeeze for a game, best case scenario. They're just too lazy to do the cut manually, so they chop it at 2 hours!
