MAJOR CHANGES AT THE EAGLE????

Hi

According to their website it says to listen this Friday at 5 for a major announcement concerning the immediate future of The Eagle. What the hell does that mean? A format change agagin?

Since it has been #5 or #6 25-54 men in the most recent PPM monthlies posted here, it obviously won't be changing formats.

No doubt, as most people have guessed, since the Cowboys are playing an opponent Saturday night called the Eagles, they will probably do a bit where they scrap the Eagle handle leading up to that in honor of the Cowboys.

I am going to dare to dream that they are going to fire that craptastic on air staff they have.....ESP cyndi. In all reality its not going to be anything special at all.

Press Release from KEGL yesterday... make of it what you will -

KEGL–FM 97.1 THE EAGLE MAKES MAJOR CHANGES

Dallas, TX – Thursday, January 7th major decisions are made at D/FW’s rock headquarters. The time comes in every business when those calls have to be made, today was that time for KEGL. Earlier this morning, Chris Ryan, KEGL’s Program Director announced, “After carefully considering the events in the Dallas/Fort Worth marketplace, we’ve decided that a change at KEGL is in order. It’s time to take the ball and run with it and help give D/FW something it hasn’t had in years.” To avoid any rumors these changes will be announced at 5pm this Friday, January 8th live on-air at 97.1 (KEGL – FM). Management is behind this change to help guide the staff and community in a direction that will benefit us all. Market Manager, J.D. Freeman has said, “We are in a situation that immediate changes were demanded and we rose to the occasion to do so effectively. With swift movement and an extremely efficient staff we are taking the station to a new level that will truly reflect its listeners. With one announcement we will essentially flee the nest.” Tune in to 97.1 promptly at 5pm tomorrow to help us welcome the change needed.

How sad...sounds like it won't be another "work from home" day for all three of the station's employees there today. Even Chris Ryan may have had to wait until the "day-of" to voicetrack the big announcement. Hey, part-time board op intern, get the answering machine ready...there may be calls...Get San Antonio on the phone and have them take us out of National Automation at 4:59PM and put us into Local Automation.

Yeah, and Sunny 97.1 was putting up a pretty good fight against KVIL until those CC morons pulled it for La Preciosa. You're making the mistake of applying LOGIC here. :D

What do you think they'll change to?????

Read the damn press release. they're getting rid of the Eagle nickname (just like I said). That's it.

They're going to 'flee the nest"??? What the hell does that mean in a press release??????

You don't announce a format change with a craptastic press release filled with gems like 'we're going to take the ball and run with it" and 'calls have to be made".

Want to know what 'calls' have to be made? Promos calling for the defeat of the Philadelphia Eagles and inviting you to listen to the new calls of 97.1 the Cowboy...

(And Sunny 97.1 was never EVER threatening KVIL in 25-54. They did fine 12+ (ah, the old days) but Sunny got the old farts who didn't know what KAAM was (or couldn't find their AM band) and IIRC they had a MUCH older audience than KVIL. So they get rid of a station attracting an almost unsellable audience, and they tried to tap into the fastest growing demographic group in Texas. That's perfectly logical, but only if you understand radio basics, demographics and economics. But of course, some don't.)

If this is a bit, why not just kick this off around Tues. or Wed. It was already known that if the Cowboys would win, that they would play the Eagles again. They could of had the jingles produced ready to go.

This just sounds like when the City of Buffalo, Texas changed their name to Blue Star when the Cowboys played the Bills in the 93 and 94 Super Bowls...

I thought that too... why go to all this trouble to switch to "The Cowboy" at 5:00 when game is the next night??? I bet there are a lot of people who don't even turn on their radios from Friday night to Saturday night. There is a lot of other things to do when TGIF gets here. ;)

But that would have required foresight and planning, and we're talking about Clear Channel. :D

I COULD be wrong, but between it happening the day before the playoff game, lines like 'we're leaving the nest' in the press release, the lack of other buzz about something happening
(Hint- sales departments usally have a pretty good handle of format flips because most stations will try to give their biggest advertisers some kind of 'heads up' about an incipient format change- when you're sales department tells you they're hearing rumors it's a little more believable than internet speculation)
I bet it's something to do with the Eagle/Eagles connection...

What are you trying to say?

Yup I just heard that. Give Philly The Bird LMAO!
97.1 The Bird

Finally someone at CC Dallas comes up with a good stunt-promotion. :D

THIS is a good stunt/promotion?? Not too original and poorly executed. I'm afraid the lack of quality and creativity in radio these days has forced us to accept THIS as good stunt/promotion...
