Major Changes at The Score??

I heard John Rooke say this morning that they might not be there next week. I know I have read on other boards that there will be some changes to the line up. Any one else have any idea as to whats going to happen and when?

It seems that every time I look at this board, there is always some discussion about alleged "major changes at The Score." We have gone over possible format changes for the FM side for quite a long time. Something's got to give sooner or later. Either sh*t or get off the pot.

I agree...but John Rooke's comments about not being on next week were the first I heard of from an on-air announcer there.

They still have a couple of weeks before the fall book starts, so they have time yet. The scuttle on the boards was that the Score would live on at 790 while the FM would flip to a jockless music format. If Rooke is stating that he "may not be here" in the future, will the AM change or tweak their format as well? It's possible that 790 could go nearly fulltime syndicated sports with Pawsox and college play-by-play. ESPN 790....maybe?

790 could very well do that but keep a live morning show.I don't see Colletto or Cordischi being let go and think sooner or later Gresch will go elsewhere anyway.

As far as the FM I think jockless is a sure bet.I don't believe any advertising was done in the trades for the station unless Tony Bristol is contacting some of the purported 500 plus applicants for PRO-FM for jobs there. It will be jockless or tracked by whoever's in the building already. As far as format with B101 moving towards 70s and 80s classic hits with some well known 60s music retained then Citadel is a little late with this format.I don't believe B101 is doing anything revolutionary and they don't exactly have a killer lineup of people but Providence radio is like the price of gas. It's not very good but stations know you'll eventually settle in and accept it.

Had the Score on yesterday in the afternoon, and Gresh was making a point about something. He said "I heard on Sporting News Radio (pause) that's not in this market (pause, pause, pause) that blah, blah, blah. It was a very strange pause, as if he were silently communicating with the other guy.

Citadel Cost-Cutting?? (Was: Re: Major Changes at The Score??)

Maybe Citadel is on an economy kick.

By flipping WSKO-99.7 to a "jockless" music format (maybe a "Jack"-type format??) and by eliminating local sports talk from WSKO-790 to go 24/7 ESPN Radio (except for local play-by-play), Citadel will save a lot of money that they won't have to pay local hosts on WSKO.

This cost-cutting could even extend beyond "The Score": Could Citadel replace Tessa and Baby J's local morning show on Hot 106.3 with the syndicated Star and Buc Wild show??

If cutting costs boosts profitability

Then it's just a matter of time before some megagiganticbroadcastingandeelfishing company discovers the ultimate! Now maybe I should quickly trademark this format:

"The Sound of Silence"

Fire everybody.

Turn off the transmitter.

Turn off all the lights, heat and A/C in the building.

Go home and count the bucks that are being saved as pure profit.

Sigs and jingles would be cheap to produce, too!
