Major COX Channel lineup Changes 8/3/11

This is actually a good idea. ALL HD channels will be moved to 1000's.For example WJAR ch.10 is on 10 on the analouge 10 will be on 1010.Discovery 24 will be 1024.

Perfectly alighning the HD's with the lower basic channels.I get lost now with the presnt line-up.

It's a good idea, unless you have a dozen or so recordings scheduled on your DVR, then you have to reprogram them all....
I wonder if they are changing the frequency allocations as well or just the virtual channel numbers.

Time Warner uses the 1000 channels for HD also. But Time Warner did something different. They ofter two channels for the regular cable channels for people with digital boxes. For example you can view ESPN SD on 25 and then again on 500. For ESPN HD thats channel 1500. All the HD channel numbers are numbered after the new channel.

I know satellite and cable are different to some extent, but DirecTV has all of its HD channels on the same SD channel numbers. So ESPN SD is on channel 206 but so is ESPN HD. The subscriber has the option of having the receiver box show both the SD and HD channels or just the HD channels with no SD duplicates. It makes finding HD programming easy because every HD channel has the same number as the SD channel so one does not have to learn two sets of channel numbers. During some sports subscription programming, such as MLB Extra Innings, the HD channel number is the same as the SD channel with a dash one (i.e., 721-1) after the main number. This is used for part time HD channels that are only used for sports subscriptions. However, all full time HD channels, about 170 of them, have the same channel numbers as their SD counterparts. I have wondered for a while why cable can't do this - it is very convenient to those of us who have DirecTV and I think it would be equally convenient for cable subscribers as well.

Believe it or not, there IS a cable company in a small part of Rhode Island that does this. It only serves Bristol Co., R.I. and it's called Full Channel TV. It has actually served that community since 1984, and they do exactly what DirecTV does. I don't think very many people use it because of competitors Cox and Verizon FiOS, but I think they are doing this just so that maybe some people will still keep with the company. They seem to have upgraded, and I think they use the exact same guide as Comcast. Which reminds me, I wonder if Comcast will do this.

Isn't that the system for the 3 municipalities (of 39) which Cox DOESN'T cover? It's amazing how Cox dominates so much of the state.

I'm not sure what you mean by that, but all I know is that they carry the Cool TV while Cox doesn't. But from what I understand, I don't think they carry WSBE HD, or even WLNE HD, but I could be wrong.

Cox is in the East Bay alongside Full Channel.

Full Channel doesn't have WSBE HD, but they do have WGBH HD and also carry WHDH and WSBK, both of which would be nice to have on cable.

I was messing around on the COX website and something I clicked on.Some sort of guide had the new line up and "Cool" was allocated for ch 812.

I'm assumming they are going to add COOL Music choice HD all changes at once.Another thing in the letter I recieved waas they pulling TV Guide from ch 4.

It may being showing up soon. Keep checking. My mom (in Connecticut has COX) disconnected her COX box the other day and had the cable going directly into the back of her HDTV and she was getting The Cool TV on Channel 59-2. She has another HDTV that's not connected to a BOX and it never showed up before. WCTX 59-2.

Here in RI I just ran a scan without the converter box and THE COOL TV ID is now showing up on 12-2 but no signal.

COX in Connecticut has added several new channels.

79 Telefutura (WUVN 18.3)
83 National Geographic
84 OWN
85 Speed Channel
86 Golf Channel
812 The Cool-TV (WCTX 59.2)

The channels on 83, 84, 85, and 86 all used to be on higher numbers. The switch just happened recently. It wasn't that long ago that I was watching TV at my friends house in Southington and none of these channels were there.

Do those channels only show up if you have digital cable? Or can you view those channels with your tv hooked up straight to cable?

The new Cox HD line-up looks good. Makes it much easier to find the HD verison of the channel. But when they were doing this they should of also moved some channels near channels that are alike. For example Comcast Sports Net NE and SNY should be moved near NESN and YES.
