MAJOR ERROR ON TODAY'S (MON 2/25) PRICE IS RIGHT

First Showcase Showdown: The first lady spins and is clearly trying to "finesse" it... she lands on 5 cents (right before the original starting point of a dollar). As any TPIR fan knows, this spin should not count, as it did not go all the way around (as the rules dictate). Drew tells her to spin again. This time she lands on 80 cents. Drew tells her she just ended up with 85 cents, and tells her to take her place under the leaderboard.

The next guy spins and lands on 85 cents on his first spin. So he should have been the leader at this point, because if the first lady was made to redo her first spin, she would have landed on the 80 cents and would have stayed. Instead, the guy is now tied with her. The third person doesn't beat the 85 cents. Now during the spinoff, the first lady lands on a dollar and wins $1,000 (and ultimately went to the showcase). The second guy lands on 95 cents.

So this time, Drew's incompetence changed the outcome of who went to the showcase. This would have NEVER happened under Bob's watch, even an 80-year-old Bob Barker would have caught that right away, and would have told the lady to respin.

As much as I like Drew Carey, this is proof that it is time for him to go.

The lady who benefited from Drew's gaffe overbid on her showcase by about 35 dollars (it was a Mercedes by the way).

Drew: "Oh man, and you were SO lucky in the Showcase Showdown".

Indeed. ::)

It would have been interesting if she had hit $1.00 on that "second" spin.

I am the last person to defend Drew - however, I do recall a somewhat similar error occurring during Barker's era, I believe during the late 90's. No mention was made of it after the fact. Of course I can't think of the exact date or the find the Youtube clip now, but if/when I do, I'll post the URL.

I think it was during One Away in the late '80s (when they played for five-digit cars) that a contestant got no numbers right...but was shown the wrong price of the car! The mistake was rectified and the contestant got the car by default.

What are the chances of these things happening:

1. Drew Carry being replaced?
2. TPIR is moved to GSN and CBS puts on another boring talk show?

R.D.P. <><

P.S. I look for GSN to pick up the remaining game shows, still aired on local TV, real soon and become the only place where you can see them.

This might have been the clip I was thinking of. The second contestant (Jana) spins .75 and then .25, yet is assigned a score of .95. She should have been awarded $1,000 and a bonus spin. Apparently no one in the studio (or at least no one who could make a difference) caught it at the time, and nothing is said afterwards.

According to Golden-road.net daily recap, the $.05 spin (that counted) was actually the respin...apparently the first spin was edited out in post due to timing issues with the show. They say that she got it all the way around on the second spin, beginning and ending on the nickel.

I think an actual quote that I've memorized from my many years of watching TPIR can sum up this non-drama wonderfully.

"This is Johnny Olson speaking for The Price Is Right! A Mark Goodson/Bill Todman Production. This program has been edited for broadcast."

Now, the edited disclaimer is in the credits but it's always there.
Nothing to see here folks unless this is just a crap on Drew Carey thread.

I have noticed they edit things out a lot more now than they used to. They used to almost always leave anything in there. However, I do remember one time in the early 2000s, during a playing of Triple Play, there was a screw up on the one-bids and the wrong contestant played. They spent about 45 minutes thinking about what to do after realizing the mistake, and the game was replaced by Money Game, which was played for Triple Play's second car.

It doesn't help that more commercial time was added since the 1970s. I think it's amazing that they still play 6 games & 2 Showdowns prior to the Showcases. There was a possible rumor before Carey started, or maybe a little after, that the # of games would be whittled down. One game in the Barker days, Super Ball!, was mainly retired due to the long time it took to play (per, I think, either Golden-Road.net or Wikipedia).

I have been able to watch *some* (not all) of the current version in Colombia, "El Precio Es Correcto." Much of the show stays true to the US version. It's one hour in length, but if I notice right, it's only 4 games, 1 Showdown, and a Range-Game-esque Showcase for 1 contestant (which is common on many international versions). However, this Colombian version allows for much more chat between host & contestant, and much more "teasing" to see if the contestant won his/her game or not. Sadly there aren't enough "Precio" clips on YouTube.

The Mexican version, "Atinale al Precio," was IMO the truest-to-the-US-version out there. It is no longer on.

"Former SCOOTER Store employee Brian Setzer said, 'Bulldoze and get them to get the paperwork done.'"

So now we know what happened to him after the "swing revival" fad of the late 1990s ran its course!

"I felt it was very important to explain the show to Drew. He had admitted on a television interview that he was not familiar with the show nor did he watch it! He went on to explain that he took the job for the money…CBS had offered him so much that he could not refuse. Despite the fact that all the other candidates for the show (Todd Newton, David Price, George Hamilton, Mario Lopez, and others) had to audition, Drew was appointed host by CBS without any audition!"

Explains a lot.

I still think John O'Hurley would have made a far better Bob Barker than Drew Carey could ever hope to be in his wildest dreams. Too bad he was already preoccupied with "Family Feud" at the time.

Per an extensive interview with former TPIR producer Roger Dobkowitz (http://sb2tlopg.wordpress.com/), There's a lot more editing done because of "Drew being Drew" than there was during Bob's tenure.

It was hard for ANYONE to take over from Bob Barker. Barker WAS the Price is Right (well, the CBS version of course)! Still could have done better with hosts like O'Hurley or Todd Newton. Reading the part about the "exact bid" in the 37th season, Roger said the audience would have gone crazy and Bob would have had press and media all over him if he was still host in the 37th season. Not so much with Drew. They stopped "for 45 minutes" to make sure it wasn't cheating.

I read the article tonight. I believe "The Dob." The show has turned into nothing more than a circus---but *sigh* if the ratings are still good, I just have to accept it. It isn't your Dad's TPIR.

I watched the "Exacta" episode on the day it played (used VCR though). We had relatives over from out of town, I remember. When I saw/heard Drew's reaction, to me it was like I was in the Twilight Zone or something. I was, like, Did Drew really react like that, and say what he said? It was like a dream. That *couldn't be*! (Ah but it was.)

Still can't get rid of those Scooter Store and Hoveround "singalong" ads, can't they? :p
