Cox Radio...hmm i wonder which one...96.9? 104.5? 106.5? I know its not 95.1...
No chance they'd flip 106.5.

Regarding a major format change as previously stated in this thread by another poster, I don't consider any format change to be major unless the change is occuring on a heritage station. The only heritage Jacksonville stations are WOKV-AM, WAYR-AM, WROS-AM, WCGL-AM, WZAZ-AM, WJCT-FM, WKTZ-FM, WEJZ-FM, WFYV-FM, WAPE-FM, WQIK-FM and WSOL-FM. If any station, other than the ones I just listed, is changing format, I would not consider said format change to be a major one, but rather I would consider it to simply be a format change. It will be very interesting to "wait and see" which station actually makes the previously announced move and to what.
Mark, I'm thinking this is a hoax to get people to talk.

I’d like to thank ThatGuyOnThe Radio for finally bringing the word “hoax” into the discussion. It’s 50/50 that either something will happen soon or it will not.
Sometimes postings cross a fine line and I believe that happened here. I'm certain the last thing the majority of posters to this board would ever do is post confidential information. Maybe for some the temptation to get even or to be vindictive to right some kind of wrong replaces good judgment. We’ll never know and maybe that's not the case. But in a business that seems to fire people at the drop of a hat, I wouldn’t want to be responsible for someone loosing his or her job due to a confidentiality breach.
What I will agree with is Mark’s statement. Whether now or in the future, I believe WOKV-FM will be home to a 100kw one day because it’s just a logical move and the future of radio appears to be leaning into offering more non-music programming. Considering how many flips/format tweaks Jax has seen just over the past year, it's almost business as usual. The sad reality is these things usually cost folks their livelihood.

On the other hand, still using WAPE-FM as the sacrificial lamb example, if WAPE-FM were to tweak its programming from CHR to Hot Adult Contemporary, to me, that would not be so major as the two formats are very close in music programming and target demos. The main difference would be the station's newer format would target an 18 - 49 female instead of an 18 - 34 female and persons. Although such a format tweak would involve some trade-offs, for the most part hot adult still has enough new music in the mix to keep the core CHR audience content while the older music will attract the upper 30 - 40 target demo without offending the younger CHR demo.

Tweaking or blowing up the APE would be MAJOR. Now that's a legendary station, both AM back in the day and FM from the 80's to present.

While we are briefly on the topic of WAPE, back during the early 80s WAPE-AM did, in fact, go through a series of major format changes. The first such major change took place during the summer of 1981 when Top 40/Adult Contemporary was dropped in favor of modern country. A year later WAPE changed format again, this time to adult standards/big bands, before becoming religious/Christian talk in 1983. It wasn't until 1985 when WAPE-AM licensee Fort Lauderdale based Statewide Broadcasting, Inc. acquired the former WJAX-FM 95.1 and re-introduced Top 40 to Jacksonville as WAPE-FM "Power 95 - The BIG Ape". Top 40 formatted WIVY 102.9 had dopped Top 40 in favor of adult contemporary in 1983, so Jacksonville had no local Top 40 outlet for a little over two years.
