Major FM station flips

There has been a major format flip in Columbia. 96.7 Steve FM has flipped to oldies, as it will be named Dawn FM after South Carolina women's basketball coach Dawn Staley. Dawn FM will be an oldies station with a twist, mixing 50s-80s songs (the widest playlist in the state) along with short little tidbits after every song. The station will also include news updates from the 1960s and 70s, and will sign on at dawn and sign off at dusk. At night, it will play automated lullaby "beautiful" music until dawn.

In the mornings, the ole Scooter will host a show. Scooter will be on from dawn until 10am with news anchor Charlie McAlexander chiming in. He will be joined by cohorts Andy Thomas and Bill Benton. Thomas will host the midday show, while Bill Benton will do afternoons.

On weekends, Savannah SandGnats games will be aired, along with a sports show ole Scooter. He will host a Saturday afternoon show. The new station hopes to be near the top of Columbia's rating books in 6 months.

April Fools!!!

If this fails, they plan to flip again and become Aloha FM, all Hawaiian music, all the time. Scooter will remain with the station, doing an early morning farm report show, with the emphasis on pork belly futures reports. Scooter's weekend show will however be replaced by brokered Spanish language programming, with host Dolores Carmen De Nominator.

April Fool's Day ain't over till it's over.

Or maybe if it is successful, Scooter will go to 560 WVOC and host the afternoon show there with his compadres, talking wrestling every week and taking calls about Columbia city council meetings, not expounding his views.

And he will wear a t-shirt every day. Even If It Defies The Dress Code. He Will Try To Get A 5 Share.

Don't forget Scooter's Sunday Afternoon Rasslin' Roundup and Polka Party Show. Listen as the former (and long forgotten) morning-zoo deejay hypes the upcoming grudge match between The Mad Veterinarian and Harvey the Bleeder, (plus special added attraction, the Avid Listener vs. Goat Rodeo Cowboy) while playing the latest Slobbovian hits by Stan Brolonockowitz and the Four Fifths and Bud Hundinski and his Polka Corsairs. (And struggling to pronounce their names.)

Hey, it's still AFD in my time zone.
