Major Job Cuts at WVIT

I think we can say buh-bye to Gerry, unfortunately. He's the best anchor at the station but by now his big bucks are probably too expensive for the station. I'd be willing to bet Brad and Bob are probably on the chopping block too.

The talk of the industry is that NBCU wants to buy out expensive anchors...like Chuck Scarborough at WNBC, who takes in around $3M annually; and Paul Moyer at KNBC/LA, who reportedly banks north of $1M a year. A buyout of Gerry wouldn't surprise anyone, given how austere (read: cheap) their local operations are becoming.

I know this is a little OT, but how on earth is Sue Simmons still there? She looks so miserable, always has the meanest, nastiest look on her face. Even her comments to other people on the set are rude at times. She really doesn't come off as a pleasant person at all, but at least pretend for on-air's sake. And after last year's f-bomb, and all the cuts at NBC, how did they not can her yet? I can think of dozens of other women in that market who would love to have that job and actually show it to the viewers too. ???

As for NBC30, I hope they don't get rid of Gerry, Brad Field or Bob Maxon. They are the faces of NBC30, as far as I'm concerned. Everyone else is so new that I'd probably stop watching if they were gone. Then again, FOX61 is expanding (if they don't mind taking a small pay cut), and that would really boost 61's image.

Chucky currently hosts not only the regular news, but also a daily newscast for WNBC's secondary subchannel ("New York Nightly News," which used to be on regular Channel 4 at 7 PM).
