Major layoffs happening at Lotus???

So far we have had no layoffs, no firings, no reduction in force. We have even added one sales person. I'm not geting the additional assistant I wanted for a while, but our GM Tony Bonnci has committed to trying to keep the staff whole. We are watching overtime on our part timers, paying attention to costs and doing what any good company should be doing all along. I competed with Lotus for 15 years before moving here from Tucson ten years ago, and one of the reasons I joined the Lotus family is because of their reputation for caring about their people. I believe that Tony is a man of his word. This is not to say events beyond his control might make cuts necessary, but I believe he will do his best. Look around and see how many other companies in this town have a lot of on air and off air folks who have been with the same station over 20 years. I've been in the business for over 40 years and have rarely ever seen that kind of retention. Bill Croghan, Cheif Engineer, Lotus Las Vegas.

Bilco,

You are right about Tony. He's a man of his word. I came into the Lotus family in 1996 and have been here ever since. One thing Tony said once about Lotus; Find the best people to work for you and you end up with the best place to work. It's absolutely true. I took a year off in 2005 to explore life beyond radio and when I found that I missed it too much, I was welcomed back. Not too many companies out there that will put you back in the game after leaving. Most of our staff has been with lotus for 10-15-20+ years and are definitely like family. There are other people who left, went to other companies(Journal, Citidel, CC) and came back with a new appreciation of Lotus. They do care about their people. Even the Air Staff! LOL! Our GM is doing his best to keep us all employed as well. So far, so good. Hopefully the new year, new administration, and new attitude will turn things around for the better for us all.

All the best to you in Vegas!

True words. I worked at Lotus LV in the 90's and left for another opportunity in 2001 knowing I would be welcomed back if ever things didn't pan out. Low and behold it did not, for "budgetary reasons". I've moved on elsewhere since that fallout, but it is nice to know that I can still give Griff a call and bid for an open spot.

I should have added to my earlier post that I hope the rumored layoffs were just that and nothing more. I worked at Lotus LV a few years ago. My stay was all too short. I didn't do anything wrong, it was a bad situation and I'll leave it at that. Tony Bonnici was a class act during this difficult time. He felt bad about what happened to me and did what he could to make it up to me. In the end, I chose to leave. He was nice enough to drop my non-compete so I could look for work elsewhere within the market. He's still one of my references. If he called me about working for him again and the Lotus family in Vegas, I wouldn't hesitate to say "yes". I think if every GM in the nation could spend a week learning from Tony, this business would be better off.

Does Tony's brother Eric still work for Lotus? How about Jesse Leeds? I remember when he first moved to town from Tulsa Oklahoma. I have fond memories of working with them in the 1980s before they started for Lotus. They were both very nice guys.

Eric is now the sales manager for KJUL/KDOX. He's been there quite a while. I recently saw him at a party and he's doing well. And Jesse is still here as the sales manager for us. Good people....

And yes...Lotus is a great place that is more like a family run operation versus the corporate BS that happens at other stations. It's funny when I see a rumor like the one posted at the top of this thread. It's obvious that Terryjames is not familiar with Lotus and how we run things here. Just trying to stir the pot I guess. Earlier threads (two different ones) had John Griffin being blown out too. JG is one of the best PD's I've seen. He took KOMP from a mediocre rock station to be an industry leading active rocker with solid books year after year. Just empty rumors...like this one.

Not trying to stir the pot. That's why the question marks on the original post. Very familiar with Lotus, although I've never worked there I have many friends who have and still do.

Norm's column in today paper says 8 were laid off. Those of us working here only know of 4. More may be coming, anything is posible, but I doubt it any right away. Losing those 4 was hard enough on Tony B. Never say never, I may be next, but wait and see before passing judgement. Our company is way ahead of Beasely where everone had to take a 5% pay cut, Clear channel where 18 were let go locally, or CBS where they've lost 32 over the last year.
