I remember the bitter controversy from that year when FOX decided to show the American national anthem then break to commercial just before the Canadian anthem. TSN in Canada picked up the FOX feed and were unable to show the Canadian anthem, sung by a trio of musicians from southern Ontario known as the McCauley Boys.

Also, as far as I can tell, the only Baseball All-Star Game played on a weekend (a Sunday night).

This too was during a political convention (the Democrats met in New York that week). I believe ABC aired a half-hour of convention coverage from 7:30-8 P.M. EDT and another half-hour after the game.

Originally scheduled to be played the night of July 22nd but was rained out. NBC filled the gap left by the July 22nd rainout by airing a special report on Apollo 11 (then enroute home from the historic first moon landing) and a taped entertainment spectacular (which revolved around the moon landing) that was to have aired in prime-time on July 20th, between the moon landing and the moonwalk. When the moonwalk was moved up several hours, the broadcast of the entertainment spectacular was cancelled. With the All-Star rainout, the show finally aired two days later than originally scheduled.

The first "prime-time" (on the East Coast) telecast of a Baseball All-Star Game. The game probably ended around 10 P.M. EDT. Why can't the All-Star Game go back to a 7 P.M. EDT airtime (with perhaps a 7:20 P.M. EDT first-pitch) so youngsters on the East Coast can see the whole game??

The first All-Star Game to ever end in a tie. Unlike the 2002 game, which ended in tie because there were no pitchers left in the bullpens, this game ended in a tie due to rain that stopped the game in the ninth inning.

I thought the first televsied Baseball All-Star Game was in 1949.

I wish Timmy B would let us know who were the announcers for All-Star Game telecasts over the years. I wonder if at one time, the play-by-play man of the team whose home park hosted the All-Star Game would be a part of the network commentary team.

I've heard that there are no Fox affiliates in Canada, so they apparently decided they wouldn't be offending a non-existent Canadian audience by skipping their anthem. Bad move.
But then, considering the lackluster U.S. anthem singers in recent years, maybe they should have skipped both.

I seem to remember CBS started their broadcast at the top of the hour, did the customary pregame coverage, then, because President Bush and Prime Minister Mulroney were throwing out the first ball, there was a slight delay from the 8:30 EDT start. I think the game started about 15-20 minutes late. Presumably, this, along with CBS's low ratings for baseball, and the costs of doing pregame coverage, led to them starting the broadcast at 8:30 for the final two years of the contract, with little or no pregame content.
I also remember in '93, CBS, knowing it was the last year of the deal, spent a lot of time during the broadcasttrashing the game, its selection process, and the high number of Toronto players picked by AL and Jays manager Cito Gaston.

I have a Los Angeles TV Guide from that week. NBC's prime-time schedule for July 20th:
