ION Media Networks, Inc. (AMEX: ION) and Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution announced today a comprehensive programming deal, providing ION with the rights to broadcast popular movies and classic television series from Warner Bros.’ extensive library on its flagship i television network, reaching over 90 million homes.

This is great news. It's great that Mama's Family may be picked up by I Network. I also want to see Alice, Perfect Strangers, and a few other shows. Let's hope this negotiation goes somewhere fast.

I'm with you, UPN30, I'm more excited about the movies, though. I mean the more times I get to see classic movies like "Police Academy 2" and "Beetlejuice," the better, I'll tell you what. Add to that a great primetime lineup with the possibilty of "Mama's Family" and current I/Pax staple "Diagnosis Murder," well I don't know why I even need my other 200 channels.

Hi everyone:

I rather hope they produce some original stuff too. I mean, if I want nostalgia TV, I'd rather watch TVLand.

Just my opinion...

Cheers :)

But what if people don't have TV Land? I would like to see shows like Mama's Family,Alice,Chico And The Man,Welcome Back Kotter,Eight Is Enough,Wonder Woman, and others back on TV again. Beats everything that Nick at Nite has dished out the past few years.

Another question, will all of the shows and movies be Warner Brothers shows and movies exclusively or will they gradually get more programming from other studios?

It's about time! We've needed a classic TV network for quite a while. TV Land and Nick at Nite great, but slowly but surely they mixed in the much more current material. Same thing that happened to "fX" ten years ago. Let's hope this will fly. You can bet, I will be watching! Good thing about this is, I can watch it on my Watchman anywhere.

Re: MAJOR news about the i television network

It is most likely Pax/i will still be infomercials most of the day with this old stuff filling prime time.
Also, what happened to NBC's legal action?

The classic Warners shows may start as early as 3pm on weekdays if the studio helps the stations fill the needed E/I time with re-runs of "Pinky and the Brain", "Freakazoid", "Histeria", the animated "Bettlejuice", and from the 80's, "The New Adventures of Batman" (cause Bat-Mite teaches the kiddies stuff). Whichever of these shows they choose for "I", plus the evening programming will all be tied in with AOL's IN2TV website. And you can bet lots of ad time will be devoted to selling DVD sets.

If that's the case, i would remain in its original scope -- producers buy time to put their shows on air, instead of i buying rights themselves.

Though of course, this was supposed to be for independent producers, not major studios or, of course, infomercial companies.

Maybe i is hurting for some decent programming...

Hell, anything is better than the 17 or so hours of useless informercials, and the Warners seem to have a great library of television programming. I'm not too sure (and it would probably be too time-consuming to find out exactly), but I think that Warner Bros. and NBC Universal (through its company acqusitions and mergers) have produced more hours of programming than anyone else in television history, with CBS Paramount not too far behind.

And Police Academy 2 is probably the last of the great movies in that series......

Going back to topic now, this is really a great find for I, seeing as they were on their way to becoming cheesy and this will definitely keep them in the water for now.

Here's the roster of "i" movies for July: Superman 3; the original Fun With Dick And Jane; City Heat; Splender in the Grass; Bonnie And Clyde; The Sunshine Boys; The Great Santini and Protocal.

Not a bad start.

Looking at the listings for the next few weeks on Pax/I or whatever the hell Bud is calling it this week, it seems that the program that airs the most is the network's best known show - Paid Programming. Unless time is being purchaced by Warner, I think we can expect Paid Programming to make up the majority of the broadcast time on "network". Can someone please just kill the channel?

Well, that makes sense. Pinky teaches kids good grammatical skills, you know. Seems about par for the course for 'i' considering the stuff they attatch 'TV E/I' warts to, right?

Someone should be on Paxson's case if they even dare attempt this for real!

If Paxson could E/I shows about talented kids and animal rescues, what's stiopping Ion (Paxson's predecessor) from E/I-ing Pinky?

Speaking of ridiculous E/I shows - Telemundo considers Rugrats to be E/I.

When "Rugrats" aired on CBS during the 2001-2002 season as part of "Nick on CBS", they too were considered E/I. Also, they weren't hand-picked for their educational value -- they were the first seven episodes from 2001, repeated twice in order (with some holiday specials thrown in).

The "Nick on CBS" schedule featured only up to three truly-educational shows ("Dora", "Blue's Clues" and "Little Bill"), but other shows in that block, like "Thornberrys", "Hey Arnold", "Ginger", "Pelswick" and "ChalkZone" could be questionable.

And the main reason of Nick's existence on CBS was to provide 3 hours of E/I.
