Major Technical Difficulties at WGBH

Just about an hour or so ago, it looked like there were problems with WGBH's Master Control. Just before 11:00, NONE of the TV channels had anything on them. WGBH, WGBX, WGBH-HD, all the digital subchannels, nothing. I turned the radio to 89.7 FM, and there was nothing on it. They eventually came back, and the woman said that they were having technical difficulties. But then at 11:30, WGBH, WGBX, and 'GBH Kids were back on, but all of them were airing Barney & Friends, and there was no stationg bug in the corner of the screen. I purposely watched to the end of the show to see what would happen next. Then there was blank screen again, and then color bars with some text relating to the technical aspects. And then I saw the slate that came before Teletubbies with the counter clock. Then WGBH programming came back on at Noon, with Caillou. I checked WGBX, and it was airing the scheduled Teletubbies, but it was also airing on 'GBH Kids. I wonder what's going on there.

I wouldn't be surprised if they were doing the final cutover from 125 Western Avenue to their spanking-new studio facility. In order to prevent dead air, they probably took a dry feed from PBS satellite (which generally is feeding time-shifted programming at that hour for their affiliates in the various time zones). OR, they had a mini-crash with their new computer based control systems (something we can all relate to). Hey, even 'GBH has its' bad days.

I don't think that was it - when I visited One Guest Street a little over a month ago (June 29), the TV stations' MCR had already moved, and nothing was looping back through 125 Western Ave that I could tell - the STL was going straight from Guest Street to Needham. Power failure at One Guest, maybe?

Didn't they have a power failure for a number of hours back in the 70s or early 80s? I seem to recall 4,5, and 7 reporting about it back then because they were off the air for so long.
