Major Tropo Conditions This Morning

Here in Central Kentucky, major tropo conditions were present this morning. It was so intense, I could not even watch my local DTV stations over-the-air unless I had my antenna pointed right at their towers about 8-10 miles away. Distant stations from Nashville, Knoxville, Charleston, WV, and other places were seen clearly on "vacant channels". The FM dial was also a mess. All the nearby rimshots were wiped out but the local 50 and 100 kw FMs were still clear. Noted many stations playing the "capture" game with stations noted coming in and out from all over Tennessee, West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, etc. Even the local NOAA weather on 162.4 was totally wiped out. I wish I had more time to "play" with the radios but other duties got in the way.

Any others note these weird conditions today?

I noticed a lot of tropo in the Huntsville, AL area this a.m. WCVQ 107.9 at Ft.Campbell,KY was especially strong. Also 87.7 LPTV audio in Memphis station was booming in. If I had more time could have logged many more...

Most of what I saw on TV was from TN and WV. When I get home tonight, I will post what I confirmed with the DTV ID feature for OTA reception. I use a very modest VHF/UHF Radio Shack antenna up about 55 feet for TV DXing.

Here is what I logged this morning (May 30) between 10 and 10:30 EDT in Lexington, KY:

WLFB 40/40 Bluefield WV
WTCI 45/29 Chattanooga, TN
WAAY 31/32 Huntsville, AL
WTNZ 43/34 Knoxville, TN
WZDX 54/41 Huntsville, AL
WSMV 4/10 Nashville, TN
WZTV 17/15 Nashville, TN
WTVC 9/9 Chattanooga, TN
WELF 23/16 Rock Springs, GA
WRCB 3/13 Chattanooga, TN
WKOP 15/17 Knoxville, TN
WKRN 2/27 Nashville, TN

And a station simply marked "ION" on RF Ch 45 and referencing Channel 44 Where??????

WPXH Gadsden, Alabama. (which would look to be your best catch of the morning!)

It *was* a pretty good morning. Thought I had E-skip when I got in the car 30 miles northwest of Nashville & heard classical music on 91.5 & 92.5 -- turns out 91.5 was Tuscaloosa and 92.5 was a 10-watt translator 60 miles away in Murfreesboro. Electric 94-9 out of East Tennessee (250 miles over tough terrain) was in like a local.
