Make A Donation?

I have been looking around alot of internet radio websites and the one thing that gets me is a botton to make a donation. I understand that every internet station is trying to make it and keep the stream going etc. I don't mean to sound harsh but I have never or will ask for donations. If the day comes when my company cannot pay the bills to stream then I will close the company down.

A lot of these stations operate as a "personal" level station, meaning that they are not allowed to run advertising in the audio stream. The donation route, and ads on the website, are how they survive.

I don't use a button, or ask for donations online, but they really help.

I understand. I invest money into 5 internet stations to help them along each month (streaming, t shirts, liners etc) I know the stations run @ a loss each month. I don't mean to sound like I am putting down internet radio.

Back when I had my webstream I had a donation button on the site. Those who recognized the effort put into the station would donate, while those who really didn't care much never bothered. The funny thing was when I abruptly pulled the plug it was all those who never donated that made statements like "why did you turn it off" - most listeners don't care who pays for it as long as they get something for nothing.

I don't think there is anything wrong with asking donations as long as a web station doesn't try to use donations as a supplement to commercials or even underwriting mentions. It's too much and a turn-off.

Radio Paradise depends on donations for survival along with commission tie-ins from Amazon and local vendors. In exchange listeners get their music commercial-free. It's a good arrangement.

The important thing is having a station that is so good and respected that it garners listener loyalty. Radio Paradise is successful in that regard and listeners, apparently, don't seem to mind showing their appreciation with a contribution.

I don't mind Internet Radio Stations allowing donations. It's better than the station doing a pledge drives like public radio stations do. Those stations really put a guilt trip on their listeners during pledge week. Besides, the Internet Radio Stations I know of make very little if anything from donations. If Internet Radio Stations made enough from commercials or the cost to run Internet Radio wasn't as expensive as it is, then I doubt any of them would have a need for donations.

Thats cool everyone has a view on this. I run my company @ a loss every month and it's cool. I don't see it making any money soon. This my view of Make A Donation.

Sounds like we are in the same boat. I run mine at a loss as well. Don't plan to stay that way, as I can only pay so much out of my own pocket. I'll be happy to break even. Of course if the CRB has its way, we will all lose our shirt, an arm and leg, our first born and maybe more, all for the love of music.... or in the case of the CRB the love of money.
