Making Rhythmic Viable

Before I post a small playlist of what I think a Rhythmic station could play, I just want to say that if I could program the next Rhythmic station, it will not be what 106.7 The Beat became. The idea would be to play a wide list of music, because that is what you would have to do to make this station work. One point that a few of you posters made in the first post-that as I dug a bit and looked up songs-that makes very good sense is that you can't break out EDM/Dance music at 10:15 AM. But in an attempt to make the station work, EDM/Dance would definitely play a role. Also, instead of wondering where you could put the station, or throwing out scenarios that aren't realistic, to make this a little interesting, you come up with any station that you would like to hear this station on.

When you say "rhythmic" it sounds like you're talking about Rhythmic AC. Is that correct? Unfortunately, Rhythmic AC is a fad format that doesn't work in many markets at all. :(

If it was up to me, I'd support a Rhythmic station, whether it be CHR or AC. It would have to be programmed right-- as in, it can't be playing the same stuff other CHRs are currently playing; it has to be cutting-edge and break out new music months before anyone else; and if you choose to have live jocks, they have to fit the format and whatever target demo you're going after-- but everything you mentioned in this post sounds like it could work in this market.

Unfortunately, it's not up to me. As another poster mentioned, Rhythmic AC wouldn't work at all in this market-- or in the entire Midwest region, come to think of it :( But if you were to try Rhythmic CHR, considering if it's programmed the right way, it could work

The only problem with what you're saying is that Rhythmic CHR is CHR. All CHR stations, whether they are mainstream or rhythmic, play the same kind of music. If you're talking about playing lots of songs (especially the older ones) that are not played on CHR stations, then you're no longer talking about a CHR (Contemporary Hit Radio) station. You're talking about Rhythmic AC - which is not a popular format in most markest. (It saddens me to say that because I LOVE Rhythmic AC, but it just doesn't work.)

CHR/rhythmic and CHR/pop (mainstream CHR) sound way too much alike these days.

Gr, Honestly, I would go with a hybrid Rhythmic/Dance format. that's what I would call it. The Beat was considered to be Rhythmic AC. This mythical station would have some Rhythmic elements, but also feature Dance elements too. I hope that made sense.

I don't even know what to call this station. Maybe Dance Top 40?? Someone clarify this....

Dance is basically all of CHR now. We can't get away from it. Dance is covered with AMP & Channel. No need for Dance in Detroit.

The big problem is that rhythmic AC just doesn't work very well anywhere. Sure, Channel 955 may be a rhythmic CHR, but it just doesn't have the fame that CHR or rhythmic CHR has.

My point is that rhythmic CHR plays a lot of dance tracks anyway. Besides, most music today sounds rhythmic whether you like it or not.
