Mal Bellairs turns 90 this year. He started his radio career in Chicago in 1940. He was at WBBM 780 from 1955 to 1969 when they went all news. He then bought his own radio station, WIVS in Crystal Lake. He added the FM station in Woodstock, WXRD in 1974 and ran both until 1984. He stayed on the air after selling for a career that spanned 50 years.
I am tring to have him recognized by the Illinois Broadcasters Association and the Museum of Braodcast Communications. Both have a "Pioneer" category. Recommendations can be sent to Dennis Lyle at the Il Broadcasters Assoc. at [email protected] and to the Hall of Fame at [email protected]
