Male-targeted advertisements on WQAM

I visit a lot of markets and listen to sports talk radio when I'm in town. While in Ft. Lauderdale last week listening to WQAM, I noticed that the majority of their ads seemed to be about Viagra, ED, and dance clubs. No problem with that and I get the targeting toward the male persuasion but I don't hear this concentration of such ads in sports talk radio in other cities. My big question for South Florida radio business types: are these advertisers paying top rates for airing their commercials or is WQAM desperate for any type of revenue and going after lower-tier opportunities?

One other observation: I didn't hear a female call into any of the WQAM shows. That's also different from other markets.

I worked in sales for many years at various stops in S. Fla. QAM's sales does pretty well. Still a top 10 biller in the market. So, it's certainly not desperation. Those company want to be on sports related content. Hence, why they're on every game you watch.

Female callers? I worked in 3 markets in my life and rarely heard female callers on Sports Talk. News talk? Sure. Not sports.
