Mama Kin edit on HJY

Listening to HJY yesterday, whats with the Mama Kin edit???? It was the worst job of editing out a word I have ever heard. I didn't think this song had a problem for Airplay. Way too P.C.???????

Everyone is freaking paranoid these days. It's going to kill Radio as we know it. Thank God for Satellite Radio and the Internet. You'll find a lot less censoring from them!

I think it depends on the station, & charging a station like HJY with the responsibility that no young ears hear a mildly offensive word is silly. Still, I'm sure the directive came from corporate during some indecency hubbub & you know who always wins when you fight authority. I don't know if there's some song-specific list of required edits but I doubt that the decision was completely local. I was brought up in a household where no one swore but I picked up the language anyway & it sure wasn't because of the lyrics radio was playing at the time. Listeners don't dissect lyrics of songs they already know. They mentally sing along. The "other" version of James Blunt's You're Beautiful has him f'ing high instead of flying high. I don't expect anyone to play the other version, but in concert he doesn't sing that line. He pauses & the audience sings it, & I don't have to tell you which line they sing. I'm willing to bet if he sings at a radio-sponsored event he's flying high though.

Does HJY still play the edit of "Who Are You" where the songs actually skips back a beat after the edit? I remember when I first heard that that terristrial radio was truly doomed. The "Man In The Box" edit was pretty bad too, and that song actually had its own radio edit when it was released in 1990. Don't know why they just play that one.Jacko

Editing is stupid. We already know what those words are supposed to be. Have you ever known a kid to go bad because he heard a foul word or two? There are a hundred other reasons why kids turn bad and I'm positive that hearing the "S" or "F" word in a song isn't it!
