Man Climbs 200 ft in lightning storm at Clear Channel Tulsa STL Tower

Saw TOWER MAN today. He is insane. They should offer him a job as a tower climber. Hey, while you are up there, please change a few bulbs for us!!!

In all seriousness, this isn't going to end well. I don't think he has any intention of jumping, but he may fall off. He's been up there for over 120 hours with no food or water...dehydration is likely already a problem. If the TPD doesn't go up there and yank him down, he probably won't live.

I assume they shut the transmitters off on that tower,

I'm pretty sure they were on before somebody noticed the guy.

It might have been exactly what he needed.

If someone can straighten out what seems to be his temporary mental issue (cracked after becoming unemployed), I honestly think the guy WOULD make a good real tower guy. His endurance is simply amazing. All joking aside, most real tower guys are a bit "off" anyway. Many have chemical dependancy issues and some run-ins with the cops in their lifetime. He wouldn't be that different than many in that respect. Hopefully he can settle down and move on with his life. Who knows... I might see him sometime changing light bulbs or an antenna for pay next time (hopefully).

Amazing how many different local TV newscasts around the country have claimed this was the "TV tower of our sister station in Tulsa" when in reality it sounds like it was a CC STL tower. And the reported heights have ranged from 150'-300'...and all this misinformation is just the from the ones I've personally witnessed.

Yup. I think it's around 300 feet tall and holds STLs for CC stations, some stuff for Fox 23, a CC translator on 93.5 and possibly an stl or something for LaSere (SP) TV. I agree, lots of mis-info on this one including the part painting his as a total loon. He certainly has some issues, but he's pretty much a guy that cracked under pressure etc.
