Manch-vegas observations.

Noticed WNNH still running Classical music but with an "Adult hits" format PI on their RDS. Hardly fits the format on the audio I'm hearing while driving in the area. Is this a leftover from the oldies format that once was on 99.1 or is it a sign of changes in the offing?

Also heard yet another WCRB clone on 106.9 in Manchester with "Classical 99.5" on the RDS. It seems a little redundant having another frequency being used for a station that is only 20 or so miles away (as the crow flies) and that is within the Class A contour of the primary. Manchester is sure getting a lot of "translators" as of late. 97.9 (//WOKQ) has a coverage that is in many ways equal or better than the average Class A FM'er. Same with 94.1 and 106.9. These are translators that have a significant punch. Interesting.

WNNH is in the process of being transferred to Binnie Broadcasting pursuant to the Nassau bankruptcy auction. What you are hearing now is simply to keep the license alive so it can be taken over. What you are hearing now probably has little bearing on what BB will program. Best guess is that it will adopt the "Frank" format.

106.9 (W295BL) in Manchester, a no show (was RE: Manch-vegas observations)

Well, it looks like the 106.9 translator (W295BL) is silent at the present time. (Boy, that was a short visit!) Looks like someone probably fired it up just to cover for the "1 year" license requirement. I have a feeling that 106.9 will probably become yet another repeater of another AM'er or repeating another HD2 in the market. Or it will be another "on-again, off-again" situation... same time next year. It's too bad that there is no oldies station in Manchester. But, it wouldn't be bad if a station like WFEA were to be put on this station, in Stereo. Or even put WLLO-LP (102.9 from the Londonderry Schools) on it for the time being. You'd figure, how much effort does it REALLY take to keep an FM translator operational? It doesn't take much at all and these "on-again, off-again" stations (like W295BL) are simply sitting there gathering dust. Even I could think of other ideas to put "something" on the air, that people would like, on a station like that. Oh, well. "Same BAT-time, same BAT-channel".

Keeping the thread alive, 106.9 is either off the air or running REALLY low power, since I swear I can hear classical music there sometimes underneath a ton of noise while sitting in Manchester..
99.1 is now Frank, 101.5 is still classical, and 102.3 is still violins -- lots of wasted space here, although I think changes are coming.

106.9 could definitely be put to better use either as an HD2 relay for 96.5 (oldies?) or as a simulcast of one of the AMs in town, such as WFEA. The 60dbu contours of the Laconia and Henniker stations do not reach Manchester, so I don't think the 106.9 could be used as a "fill-in" translator for those..

106.9 would have to be used for WFEA (or another AM, perhaps WGIR?) as WMLL does not broadcast in HD.

If 96.5's HD isn't on right now, I'm sure it's just temporary. They have had HD for a year or so, just no HD2 yet.

They have? My mistake... HDradio.com doesn't list them as being such. My mistake.

Their sister station 95.7 runs an HD2 for the Hot Hits translators in Manchester and Concord. Based on that and their use of translators in other locations, I'm sure Saga would not fire up an HD2 on 96.5 for "both" listeners without having a translator to use...

Another interesting note here -- WFEA AM did briefly appear on 94.1 FM before they rolled out the "Hot Hits" format.
