Mancow on 94.3

I was wondering the same thing. I never really liked Mancow. The show was ok, but every time I tuned in, he was going off on a political rant and that really turned me off. So is "The X" just gonna go with all music in he morning?

Mancow used to be edgy and alternative. He decided to clean up his act and get away from FCC obscenity fines and he turned into Neil Boortz on speed. He really doesn't belong on an active rock station any more. He's a talk radio act now.

I would expect 94.3 to add some kind of morning show after they let the morning airwaves detox a bit.

The comments here are spot on. The listeners of the X didn't want to hear what Mancow was putting on. They wanted entertainment in the morning, not political talk, and that's all he's been giving.

The X has been running spots about starting a new local show. I really hope they make it very music-driven.

I agree on Mancow, he was funny, but really lost it. This was a good move for The X. While I agree BRice16, music should be played in the morning, but we can find that anywhere. Ktown needs a strong personality who can give us something to laugh at. This radio market is starving for a new voice.

I too agree with thegal12. When I first discovered The Cow in '98, I absolutely loved his show. It was edgy and funny. I would show up at all the Mancow events every time he came to town. But sometime after '03, his show really started to decline. His funny sidekicks such as Freak, Bryan the Big Gay Mule, and Turd left. It didn't help matters either when Cowboy Ray died.

I left the market in '06. Even then his show was starting to sound more like a political talk show than a shockjock free for all. It got less and less funny.

Don't get me wrong, I like to listen Boortz, Hannity, even Handel on the Law, but I know what to expect with them. Mancow really got watered down and became more issues-oriented. Boring!

I can see how the show know longer fit the X profile.

I say good move on South Central's part.

Looks like everyone's assessment of Mancow is on target. I just ran across this news item:

"GENESIS Talk WAMT-A/ORLANDO adds TALK RADIO NETWORK's MANCOW MULLER for mornings 6-9a ET and has expanded its carriage of TRN's LAURA INGRAHAM to three hours from 9a-noon. "

For those who don't know, GENESIS is a Christian based radio compamy which specializes in ultra-conservative talk stations. I guess Mancow now has officially made the move from morning shock-jock to conservative yakker.

94.3 made a good move getting rid of this show.

A friend of mine sent this to me, I thought it was interesting:

In the Fall 2008 Survey, Mancow scored huge numbers on WNFZ:

Men 18-34 Mancow is tied for 2nd overall with an 11.7 Share
Men 18-49 Mancow is ranked 3rd overall with an 11.2 Share
Men 25-54 Mancow is ranked 3rd overall with an 8.9 Share

Mancow's AQH was three to four times higher than the rest of the station.

Has 94.3 ever had numbers like this in any daypart?

Those numbers are rather surprising, especially considering they said it was an easy decision to go in a different direction. Could be that they were having a hard time selling local spots during the show, I know that was a big issue when Citadel dropped Jim Rome.

I've been listening to Jay the new morning guy on 94.3. He's funny! Heard him talk to Bruce Pearl's daughter today, what an interview...He has me looking forward to tomorrow.

I also never really cared for Mancow, but he was interesting at times. I looked on 94.3's website and found what appears to be their official statement, saying much what the rest of the thread says, Mancow was getting too political, he was becoming talk show and not musically oriented. (link to the statement here for all interested: http://www.943thex.com//Article.asp?id=1092400)

And then for kicks and giggles, yesterday I sent an email to what is theoretically the producer of Mancow's radio show, to see if they had any official statement on the matter, and have not heard an answer yet. I frankly am not expecting an answer. Anyway, again, for all interested, here's Mancow's contact page: http://mancow.com/pg/jsp/general/contact.jsp
