Many CT stations will be reducing power

nd2023

The FCC has received numerous complaints of interference from people living near West Peak in Meriden. Right now, you probably can't hear the stations from Avon mountain, KC101, Star or WEBE in Meriden because of all the interference. Therefore, as a temporary measure, they're going to have the FM stations on West Peak reduce power by 50%. Most people won't notice the difference, because 50% is only -3dBu. The stations further up I-91 in Hartford don't have to reduce power.

The stations affected are 92.5, 93.7, 95.7, 102.9, and 104.1.

Happy April Fools Day. Though, IMHO 95.7 could reduce its power all it wants. Right now, it's a waste of bandwidth!!

Too bad this wouldn't happen for real. My Panasonic CD player with AM/FM tuner gets WYBC, WALK (Patchogue, NY), WPLR, WEZN, WKCI and WEBE just fine...IF I'm sitting at the window at Westfield Shoppingtown's Food Court. I get virtually nothing of WTIC-FM, WRCH and WCCC-FM. I also get a Spanish language translator station on 98.3 FM. The only AM station that has a chance in there is WMMW-AM 1470 of Meriden. I'm guessing because it's their towers you see immeditely north of the mall's complex?

All pranks aside, have there ever been any AM broadcaster up on West Peak? I've only heard about FM and (briefly) TV.

Sitting in the Target parking lot across from the mall enterence. I was able to pick up Hot 97, got z100 in a little, 101.7 and 102.5 off Long Island, and 103.7 WEEI-FM from Rhode Island, won't put Walk as that station is easy to pick up in the car. I even get it on the Bose Radio in the house.

Actually, there is some small truth to there being interference up there, but it only affects 94.9 (95.0 if you have a radio that does that freq) you can pull in just about every station up there mixing together in much of Meriden and sometimes beyond. In the area of West Main Street and route 71, I have heard that spanish station splashing all over the place. I have also heard a spur somewhere about 106 FM.

If this were to happen how much less area would the West Peak statios cover? I would say they wouldn't reach Springfield, Mass, could be wrong.

Depends on the signal strength and configuration. WKCI is further south than West Peak and makes in into Springfield no problem, even into Nothampton. Not sure if all the West Peak stations can do that.
