Mara Davis Appreciation.

It's been a love-hate-like relationship for me with Mara, but let's give props where they are due. In a world of homogenized radio, her lunch show is the best thing on middays in Atlanta, by far. You never know what you'll hear, and even her awful singing along to cheesiness if oddly charming. Originals like Mara need to be celebrated, and I for one do. You go girl!

No one appreciates Mara more than I do. Well, maybe Charlie and Mike. Last year she won the Creative Loafing Personality of the Year for the second time. This while she was under th reign of terror that was Mechelle Engle. Mara is a treasure in the vast nothingness that is the Sea of Atlanta Radio. She's bright, funny, has incredible knowledge of music, mixes the right amount of politics into her show and has huuuuuuge...tracks of land. She is 92.9. If she ever leaves that station, you can put a for sale sign up on the studio coz they it would be worth more as condos.

It's also a credit to her that she's able to pull halfway decent numbers considering the rancid morning shows CBS keeps putting in front of her. Typically, midday shows rely heavily on a strong morning show lead-in but she's managed to shine being the whipped cream on a turd sundae.

THAT was funny! Ok, I was talking with an Atlanta radio vet the other day. I won't say who, but he's worked for Star, 96 Rock, Z 93 and others. We agreed, with the exception of 1 weekender on Rock 100.3, Dave has the worst air staff. We both like the music mix, but the personalities leave a lot to be desired. Mara is the shining exception.

Mara Davis is definitely a great talent. She's smart, creative, knowledgeable and a good conversationalist. Also, anyone who attends the CBS Radio Book Breakouts for clients twice a year has seen her at the podium with Wanda Smith. The two of them together are beyond hilarious.

Let's hear it for creativity in radio.
Thank goodness for Mara!

Further, Mara is above all, and engineer's dream. She diagnoses the problem...and heck, 9 times out of 10 she can fix the problem. ;)

Seriously, Mara is the picture of "professional" no matter what happens.

As they would say: KUDOS, Mara. :D

I don't know if there are others like me, but my morning show is NPR's Morning Edition.

I liked when they moved Mara up an hour to 9, because now all I have to do is flip from 90.1 to 92.9 at 9:00.

Good jocks are jacks of all trades within the station especially if they've been in the business a while. They learn to be when others can't, won't or don't know how to do their jobs.
