Marc Chase/Alene Grevey no longer overeseeing CC Atlanta

Marc Chase, the often vilified sr vp of programming at Clear Channel, is no longer overseeing Atlanta though he'll continue to be based out of here and oversee other parts of the Southern CCU markets. His peer Alene Grevey has moved as well.

Tom Owens will now be Jerry Del Core's boss.

This is truly shocking...look at all of the great decisions Marc made in his tenure.

Amazing. A non compromised CEO would make a clean break with this loser instead of keeping him on board to wreak havoc on other markets.

I'd have to imagine Bloomquist's dismissal is no more than a month or two away at this point.

What's the over and under on Jerry Del Corpse?

Four years and forty million too late.

Two words: BBBWWWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAHAHA. Sorry, I guess that's actually one word.

What does this say about John Hogan that he would keep a guy who failed right out of the box around for SIX YEARS to completely destroy the place? Real Radio, MIX, Cool, MAX, Lite FM,huge drops at GST and 96 Rock..any ONE of these disasters would have cost you a VP job at a responsible radio company. But somehow Chase stays on to no doubt do damage elsewhere.

Those pictures in the safe deposit box must be pretty good.

Is that correct? Would Jerry Del Core be reporting to a programming guy?

Jerry Del Core will not be answering to Tom Owens, as he didn't answer to Mark Chase either. Jerry will answer to the other CC executive who replaces Alene Greevy.

Tom Owens will oversee the Program Directors/Product for Atlanta.

Clear Channel's Executive hierarchy is a bit un'clear'.

Also, say what you will about Chase...he really is a smart guy and understands how to entertain (in the red-states).
With that said, there's a ton that he doesn't know and has caused him to make some remarkably ill-advised decisions. With that, the only surprise with today's news is that he's still getting a paycheck from CC.

Did it ever occur to anyone posting stuff about CC Atlanta, WGST, 96 Rock or any other CC property, that maybe Clear Channel LIKES what's happening here and thinks that their properties here are doing exactly what the corporate suits WANT?

If it's true, I'm dumping radio and working as a shoe salesman. At least Al Bundy had a top rated show. ;D

That's an excellent point. For all we know Chase, Grevey etc. have just been implementing John Hogan's idiotic ideas. Hogan's track record is evey bit as sorry as these other guys'-the only smart thing he ever did in radio was con the Mays into making him CEO.

I suppose just about anything is possible, but everything I've heard for the past several years is pretty much the opposite of that. Basically Atlanta is consider the biggest disappointment that CC has & that there's significant pressure to correct that. The hangup seems to be that they have yet to find the solution to fixing all the problems, rather than a failure to recognize that the problems exist.

As has been suggested any number of times here in the past, perhaps the problems are so great that there just isn't any person(s) or solution(s) that would correct all that ails them here?

Having worked with Chase, he's --- brilliant. He's made some bad decisions, and like most of us, can be his own worst enemy...but there is one major, major obstacle that Clear Channel will have difficulty overcoming:

Only having TWO great signals.

Oh, it's not the reason for their slide, but it doesn't keep the competition from jabbing at the cluster from all angles.

Pretty hard to build a "wall of women" or a "wall of men" (or a wall of ANYthing) to compliment 96Rock or Lite when you have no signal that can block or cover.

IMHO, Braves baseball was a pure ego move, and a move for 96 Rock that allowed Cox to launch a station like The RIver.

I wish everyone at CC Atlanta the very best, there are some talented people that work there...may they find their way.

This will be the longest light bulb the company has ever unscrewed.

Well, CC is not used to "unscrewing" things or people. Ask about a thousand people or so.

Marc Chase is in NO WAY --- brilliant. I've seen the man first-hand at work. Oh sure, maybe a loooong time ago he was a programmer (not saying he was but you seem so --- sure, so I'll give it to you). We've all...yaaaaaawwwwwnnn... heard the stories of when he smashed the rental car and tried to return it and... whatever.

This is a guy who should have CYA tattoed on his ass [EDIT]. He hired people to take the fall for his decisions as someone has already said. I WAS PRESENT at meetings where the guy made programming decisions based upon his 'circle of influence.' Witness, Real Radio 105.3. Just ONE example.

I've seen this exact person in sooo many CC people (hell, yeah, I'm sure it's in other groups too)... they're just lost. No longer making decisions based upon what the market needs. No longer picking songs b/c they may garner more listeners or, g-d forbid, made them listen longer. Just working to keep their jobs. Just working to --- anyone else as long as THEY can make THEIR nut.

Is that a crime?

I love radio. Yes it's a --- CRIME!

oye......all this over a reassignment...

they put atlanta under another sr vp.. and now the head of all programming.....tom owens....has to focus on a problem market..........

sounds like just good business to me.......

lot's o dollars at stake in HOTLANTA...about time cc paid attention

Moving Owens here may be San Antonio's way of moving Tom o-u-t. And it sounds like Hogan may be on his last legs with the Mays bros as well.

Cox: 4 signals, 25% market billing.
CCU: Six signals (four lousy), 12 % market billing.

Can't be good for "shareholder value".

Miss_Anthrope you fascinate me (that's not sarcasm, either). I see you on the Tampa board hating CC, too. What happened with you and CC? I'd love to know. I remember a post where you were sort of trashing the Buzz on air staff but didnt mention the afternoon guy, Chris Williams, at all...curious omission. Is that because he's the PD and you're still in "career" mode? Love some answers. Good luck to you. You seem bright but bitter. Very, very bitter. It'll eat you up if you continue down that path and turn you into...you.

Marc Chase, Alene Grevey, Jerry Del Corpse, Mike Wheeler. Are all these managers (or their replacements) really necessary? Does John Hogan really need this many scapegoats between him and his stupidity? Now they're bringing in two more VP's when the place is already as top heavy as one of Randall's news hires.
