March 09 Sweeps

From TV Newsday, it was just announced that the Feb '09 Nielsen ratings period will be moved to March for next year only. Yeah, it's due to the 2.17.09 DTV transition date and concerns that the book could be skewed by the change to all digital. For many small markets, it will be the first time CBS affiliates airing NCAA March Madness will have local ratings in their respective ratings books from the tourney. In Macon, we use nearby overnight numbers from a comparable larger market with similar strengths to our station. It will be the first sweeps since 2001 to not have the Super Bowl ratings. Sorry NBC! Local stations will get this book back just in time for the May sweeps to start. Wonder if the Academy Awards will move back to March for this?

That will suck for TV employees who want to take vacation during the traditional March spring break week. Many, if not most stations have a "no vacations" policy during sweeps.

Isn't it required by law to give female employees maternity leave?

WEHT 25 (ABC) is letting their sports director have a couple months of paternity leave, right now, during May sweeps.

In several cases, getting the lead anchors off the set can improve a newscast :p

Except at a certain station in Hartford where a certain anchor will be on Maternity Leave during The November Sweeps this year. Her baby is due the day after Election Day.

Gee Marc, would that be an anchor/reporter with the initals K.S.H. and her husband D.H., who is an anchor at the station? ;)

As for this sweeps announcement, the digital switchover should have been done at the same time Daylight Saving Time starts on that early Sunday morning next March.
