March 14: This Day in TV History

Just a few random TV related events that happened on March 14. Discuss or comment as you please……

1948: Actor/comedian Billy Crystal (Soap, Saturday Night Live) is born in New York City.

1954: KDAL-TV (channel 3, now KDLM) signs on in Duluth, Minnesota.

1967: Combat! ends a 5-season run on ABC.

1968: The 120th and final episode of Batman (guest starring Zsa Zsa Gabor as Minerva) airs on ABC.

2002: The transmission tower of WKFT-TV (channel 40, Fayetteville, North Carolina, now WUVC-TV) is struck by a small aircraft, knocking the station off the air for several months (although it continued to feed area cable systems).

2006: Mike Wallace announces his retirement from 60 Minutes after 37 years with the program. He continues to work for CBS News as a "Correspondent Emeritus."

(Just a little featurette I hope to do as time permits. It’s an entirely random selection based on a quick Net search, and is not meant to be comprehensive. So, don’t post nasty messages about “you forgot THIS” or “how could you not mention THAT?” Do so, and I’ll just take my keyboard and go home…..) ;)
