March 2010 Ratings

Just unbelievable. When was the last time Kiss had a 9.0, or higher? I'd say mid 90's?

>>RKO slipped more than I thought it would.

though as noted in another thread, Howie still did pretty well in his slot despite no Rush lead in after 3/8

Amp won't happen. No one is going to take on Kiss, especially with WJMN protecting the younger end. A lot of Kiss 108's numbers are Matty. The other stations in town will wait for him to retire, or move to an older demo station. Once that happens, all bets are off. Until then, I don't see things changing much.

CBS Radio was once big on the CHR format, but they seem to be high on sports lately. Amp is doing well in LA, but Amp in Detroit is having difficulty getting going. Now FM is struggling in New York, and recently CBS blew up B94 in Pittsburgh (again!) for all sports.

WBZ-FM is doing well in the demos that matter (despite the anemic 6+ numbers), WZLX is a 25-54 monster, and WBMX bills like crazy. WODS isn't shedding it's PPM friendly classic hits format anytime soon. CBS does well with WCBS-FM in New York and WOGL in Philly, and will continue to keep the old stuff playing at 103.3.

Entercom isn't going to switch either of their FM's to CHR, and neither will Greater Media, which prefers adult-targeted formats. There really isn't anyone in the market to go after Kiss & Jamn'.

how about taking on weei from another end getting espn or fsn 24hours on another channel probably 92.9 to take on eei and the sports hub but not sure if it would work since weei and sports hub have them overnights unless one of them switches to sporting news radio!! hmmm

Yet another sports station wouldn't work and WEEI is ESPN affiliate...Fox wouldn't leave 98.5...btw Fox Sports is actually dist. by CC/Premiere. Sporting News radio full time on a powerful FM? Nope. Had Greater Media not backed out of
deal to carry Sox they (WBOS) would have been FM sports back in 2006 (supp. they were in running/had deal perhaps with Sox having option to be part of station)

WBZ-AM still hasn't regained first place? Stand by for more "they're doomed!" comments from Maloney. :D

WBUR is still wiping the floor with WGBH. No surprise there, I suppose. Even WCRB is doing better than 'GBH. [Also, WCRB is still listed as being owned by Nassau. Oops!]

Apparently, they don't prefer making as much money as they can. There's no such thing as "nobody to go after Kiss." The signals are there, the companies just don't want to flip them. I know Mix makes money. They can make more if they stop playing 5 Nickelback songs that sound alike and play Lady Gaga and the Peas more frequently.

Matty is not interesting. Luckily for him, neither are most people on in the morning in Boston. How many times does this need to be discussed? Play the hits, and put somebody interesting on in the morning. You'll take at least a third of their audience. At least.

I know, no one is going to challenge Kiss, anytime soon at least. If it was going to happen, it would have happened in August.

I think that Mix is the least likely station to challenge Kiss.

Look at the facts:

-Mix is the market's only Hot AC and they bill pretty good.
-Basically their only competition is out of market WXLO. And now, Mix is only two clicks down the dial from them.
-CBS has no plans of changing Mix anytime soon or else we would have had "The All-New AMP Radio 104-1" at the end of the summer.
-Mix also sounds very revamped to me from the old Mix 98.5. Mix 104.1 sounds like the Hot AC of this new deckade, where as Mix 98.5 was painful for me to listen to, way too many old and tired 80's and 90's tracks.

....must say, processing on Mix is still horrible though. ;) But, your average radio listener has no clue what processing is and ratings are just fine with the station sounding like trash from an engineering standpoint.

Then maybe WXLO should be the CHR. It reaches Boston fine and dandy.

EDIT: Maybe not terrestrially...but either you're near a computer at home/work, or you're in your car, where it comes in fine.

Worcester does need it own CHR/P .

No it doesn't. It has Kiss 108.

Yes. Their transmitter tower is in Boston. It emits a signal that is audible in Worcester.
It would be nice if Worcester had it own CHR/P like New Bedford and Providence ( Kiss 108 signal is good there ).

What part of Will's post you didn't get?
