March madness time again. It's time to get those brackets ready.

It's time to get the brackets ready for the long haul of the March Madness 2008,Does anybody have any opinions on the CBS, ESPN, etc, coverage on the games.like technical aspect of the games.camera angles, FX, Color commutating.or any other things. also other things like a favorite tv series later that night was skewed off time. as you looked at the time shifted tivoed or vcr'd recording of the first 5 minutes of your favorite show and it cuts off.and I will say, I know I added about extra hour or two on the timer.

With those four virtual "home games" the NCAA (North Carolina Athletic Assn?) gave UNC, the Tar Heels should have an easy time getting to the Final Four.

Perhaps another tainted title for the ACC?

Let's hope not.

I would like to see a conference other than the ACC win the national championship.

The "official" announcement should come down later today. CBS is going to allow an independent station in Southern California (KDOC) to carry a first round game (Cal State Fullerton vs. Wisconson). Is this a first, or can anyone recall a non-CBS station having an oppotunity to be part of "March Madness"?

Last night's play-in game with Brent Mursburger and "Coach V" on ESPN was dreadful. They were basically hosting their own talk show about the rest of the tournament while the game was being played. Thank God for Westwood One.

Don't even get me started on Bob Knight's appearance as a "consultant."

CBS's selection show was better this year than last. It wasn't so rushed this time.

RadioFanBoy: I'm thinking the LIN duopoly in Indianapolis has sent some extra games to WNDY/23 in recent years.

It's a CBS owned network, but didn't CBS College Sports (ex-CSTV) carry an early round game on a saturday for a few years?

WGCL/Atlanta is once again going to offer a digital multicast via WGCL-DT and area digital cable systems. They will offer 1 HD (46.1) and 2 SD feeds (46.2 and 46.3) for a total of 3 feeds. The feed on 46.1 will often be different from the analog 46.

How many affiliates do this? I heard there are not many that do.

Sounds like the same thing Meredith is doing on KPHO in Phoenix: one analog feed on 5, one HD feed on 5.1 and SD feeds on 5.2 and 5.3. They just fired up 5.3 on Monday. With 4 simultaneous feeds and 4 gametimes on each of the first 2 days, they will be broadcasting every game in the first round for those with cable or OTA DTV.

Thursday schedule: http://www.kpho.com/grid/11124633/detail.html
Friday schedule: http://www.kpho.com/grid/11134428/detail.html

KOLD News 13, Tucson will also multicast the first round. This means that, for the first time since October, there will be something on 13.3 other than the slide about The Tube being no longer available.

The My station in Charlotte will be carrying the Winthrop game (it airs in the same window as the Duke game).

Neil Pilson, incompetent former head of CBS Sports, should have been shot (figuratively, not literally) for overbidding for the tourney, then putting all of it on CBS (Can't Broadcast Sports) exclusively.

The NFL has a 12-team playoff leading up to the Super Bowl that's covered by 3 networks.

MLB has an 8-team, three round playoff that's covered by 2 networks.

The NBA has a 16-team, four round playoff that's covered by 2 networks and God knows how many regional networks.

The NHL also has a 16-team, four round playoff that's covered by 2 networks, regional networks, and who knows how many local stations.

That's a total of 52 teams being covered by multiple networks.

The NCAA Basketball Tournament has 65 teams, that's 13 more than all the other playoff teams combined. One team in the tourney could hypothetically play seven rounds. And all but one game, the play-in game that basically decides the 64th-ranked team, is on one network? Every year the complaints pile up to the sky.

The tournament needs to be put on multiple networks.

One network could handle any one of those professional playoff series. No single network is willing/able to pony up the cash that the MLB/NBA/NFL wants.

I have always enjoyed CBS's NCAA coverage. I do miss the logo they used in the Mid-90s (the Eye Device falling through a basketball net), but that's not related to the coverage.
