March PPM - Running On Empty?

Here are the 6+ http://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb057

Looks like KFWhyEye is sinking, while KTweetAR is pulling away in the Newstalk format (can only imagine how ugly it is 25-54). Gee, think the same ol' same ol' 24/7 has something to do with 5~Fifty's problems?

And yes, Lumberyard 14~Forty has reappeared after the long, cold winter with a blazing 0.1 ;) Nice work, Goldminers!

Any speculation on why KFYI is faultering why KTAR-FM is up to #4? It wasn't long ago that KTAR-FM was down around #17, while KFYI was in the top 5. KFYI is currently at #7, not time to call out the troops yet.

Yes, the line up of Limbaugh-Hannity-Beck is getting a little tired. Non-stop Obama bashing is not my cup of tea. But KFYI does have local hosts in morning and afternoon drive.

And it is interesting for Phoenix to have TWO Talk stations in the top 10. I don't think there's another large market where that's true. At one time WGN and WLS were usually in the top 10 in Chicago but WLS has been out of the top 10 for a while now.

They decided to open up their phone lines to "the source," which is what a "talk radio" station is supposed to do. It would be nice if BSJ & Co. could take on-air calls every now and then.

Very doubtful "the source" is making a difference. Look at it this way: Which station has been using the same talking points for the past two years? Which station appeals to a predominantly male audience over the age of 55? Which station programs to paranoids between 7pm and 5am? Which station has the most gun/ammo, dehydrated food that lasts for 25 years ads, and thinks thinks HD-2 is the same as being on FM?

As Denny Green put it so well...."they were what we thought they were"

Doubtful, yes, but plausible.

KJZZ is listed as news talk, maybe news but not talk unless it is the people talking at you.

I think the "fortress of civility" stuff is wearing thin, and the fake audience sound effects went of style with the Jack Benny Show. Wine and cheesburgers? I think someone sounds like they have been putting the cooking sherry on their Special K in the morning, of course if your job is laughing at the nasal-toned carnival barker you may need a belt in the morning.

At least the audience laughter on the "Lucky Strike Program starring Jack Benny" or the "The Johnson Wax Program with Fibber McGee and Molly" was from a LIVE studio audience.
Heck, the studio Jack Benny used at Columbia Square held up to 1,000 people. ;D

Today's so-called "talk show" studios are hard pressed to fit 4 or 5 people including the alleged "talent". ::)

why is KVIB listed as Hot AC? Aren't they Spanish or Bilingual?

"Spanish" is not a format. It's a language.

But KFYI is down to 17th in 25-54, while KTAR-FM is 9th, well inside the top 10 in the sales demo. KTAR (AM) at 19th is very close to a tie with KFYI.

Someone posts how KFYI has fallen while KTAR-FM has risen.

And when I ask if anyone can speculate why, the answer is "They have opened their phone lines to The Source." Then someone else posts "Doubtful the Source is the reason."

Huh? What's The Source? Nobody can explain in simple terms why KTAR-FM went from #17 a few months ago to #4? Or as David points out, how a previously struggling Talk station managed to climb into the top 10 25-54? Other than KFI LA, I can't think of too many Talk stations that achieve that feat.

And can we post in a way than more than a few people will know what we're talking about? I don't use phrases like TSL, spotload, ROI or other insider terms when I post, without explaining what I mean to the casual reader. The title of the post is "March PPM - Running on Empty?" What's running on empty, People Meters? Maybe you meant to say "KFYI Down in Latest Phoenix Ratings."

KVIB does infact play Spanish Music, Not Mild AC

No, KVIB plays music in Spanish. "Spanish Music" is music from Spain, which KVIB does not play.

Again, "Spanish" is a language, not a format.

There are as many or maybe more possible formats in Spanish as there are in English...

... unless, of course, you think that KDKB is an English station.

DJ_Perry said:
Well most don't think of the United Kingdom (strictly) when the word English is involved, it pretty much applies to both lands. However, the point is that KVIB is not Hot AC

Actually, it pretty much is "Hot AC" if you look at the playlist.

And KVIB has Hot Adult Contemporary listed as the format in the Arbitron database (keep in mind that online ratings listings generally don't follow the Arbitron SIP definitions).

DJ_Perry said:
BTW, Somebody needs to tell **************** that KVVA doesn't play music from Spain:

KVVA-FM - 1.9 - Spanish Variety - Entravision Communications

The station self lists with Arbitron as Adult Hits.

DJ_Perry said:
They both must have shifted then. I've always known 95.1 to be Latino Vibe, and 107.1 to be Spanish Pop. Not saying the Pop is from Spain, but the Language! haha....I guess all those requests I get for Spanish are incorrect too eh?

KVVA has not been pop since the time when the Superestrella network was ended. It has been José and Adult Hits for a considerable time.

Similarly, KVIB, whatever its name may be, is a Spanish language Hot AC station.
