March PPM

March PPM 6+ is out...

What on God's green earth is happening to Lite 102.9? Down 4.4-4.2-3.8. I can't remember them ever doing that badly. WKQC still maintains quite an edge over them, even though they were down some in the last book. The Link was down as well but ahead of Lite. I think it's getting closer to time for CC to consider sticking a fork in WLYT.

Channel, who was up, still has a few points on Kiss. "Ouch" book for The End.

Notice that 95.7 The Ride will no longer show up - they obviously don't subscribe. It's subscriber only now.

Classic Hits are looking better and better for this market! Somebody is going to make that switch and become a monster in the market! Since the new PPM release appears to be a "subscriber" only report, wonder what happened to the stations that were not listed. WXRC and the others that are not listed will certainly feel the pressure of this.

All PPM markets are subscriber only now, I believe. I'm not surprised that WXRC didn't subscribe - since when do they spend money on anything? Do they even care what the numbers are?

Something's gonna have to happen at 102.9 and classic hits is the most reasonable choice. Only classic hits station beats the heck out of being a 3rd rate AC. I think it'd do extremely well and would dent 95.7.

I tell you, Mr. Happy "Valentine" and the current music is killing them. They have to have an edge over Lacey and Lynch in the Morning. A lot of the older Charlotte people listen to them, and they don't like hearing Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Adele.

The "current music" isn't killing them. Their format is Adult Contemporary, and the current music is part of the "Contemporary." It's not hurting K-104. Gaga, Katy, and Adele are all part of the format. I do agree about Valentine.

I just don't think 3 AC's can be supported - and Lite has become the weakest of the 3. I don't see CC sticking with it at this rate.

I don't see them as weak- I see them as just less exciting. I remember when K104 was trash. The DJs were bad and they couldn't find a normal format. Now, K-104.7 has a great morning show, and good personalities, too. The DJs 4 hour shifts are just right, too. I've said this before-- I think Lite should try to be like WMGC in Detroit, still AC but a strong focus on late 60s-70s- and 80s. Pretty much a classic hits station.

Lots of chatting about the 3 AC's in the market and who can win and how a good classic hits station could rise above them all. I agree that somebody will make the switch and that station will become successful. Time is ticking and it will happen soon!

Lite is starting to play a little bit more 70s than they did before. Maybe they are ready to transition soon. I really hope so.

I agree that K-104.7 has come a long way. I'm not a huge AC fan these days, so I don't really listen to them much, but from what I've heard, it's a big improvement. Their morning show is good.

Lite reminds me of CC's WMYI down here in Greenville....MY-102.5 used to be the king AC, but slowly started to wither (it was more poorly programmed than Lite, though, but the stations' playlists were similar). The newer AC, Magic 98.9, had gradually been growing and eventually just took all of the wind out of their sails. CC has propped WMYI up for the time being by taking it Hot AC.

I hope they don't do something similar with 'LYT. Charlotte is in desperate need of classic hits and 104.7/107.9 fill the AC void. I agree that a gold AC would be nice, but I think classic hits is more needed.

I agree.. For 102.9 to be successful for ages 40 and up, they need to drop the newer music from the past 10 years.

As far as 104.7 goes.. I realize HD radio is dead.. However, it amazes me how 104.7 HD2 claims they are a "super 70s" format but play a large amount of 80s. What's up with that?

Actually, if 102.9 were to go classic hits, they'd need to drop music from the last 25 years....

The issue with Lite 102.9 is that there's nothing about it that says "listen to me." The playlist is mediocre at best, as is the air talent - presentation is OK - whereas K-104.7 has a live, local morning show, better playlist, etc. They have come quite a way in a small amount of time. 107.9 The Link has its talk shows and is more personality driven which gives them a niche that attracts listeners. Lite is sort of the odd one out. Like I've said over and over, I don't know of any markets that can sustain 3 AC's in the long run. One's gonna cave at some point, and I think it's obvious which one it should be.

I think that the link is a better AC now that they have become more mainstream.

95.7 actually is considered classic hits. There would be a lot of overlap.

The AC - Classic Hits saga continues for Charlotte. First there are some really weak formats on the radio that call themselves AC and the "classic Hits" format for WXRC is a joke. Dave plays music for Dave and there is nothing wrong with that when you own the station and are satisfied with the results that brings him. K-104 and 107 and Lite are just there so to speak. A strong CH station with a flare for promotion and some strong marketing will have to be dealth with by the big guys if it happens. A signal that covers the market could make it happen.

The question is: how long does CC let Lite sit around and get the numbers it has been getting before something is done? The books have been declining since Christmas yet they haven't really made any significant changes.

dave must be happy #4 25-54 6a to 10a #1 25-54 10a to 3p #6 25-52 3p to 7p How would another classic hits station have an effect on the ride if it was patterned after WCBS in NY and didn't have a full market signal?

It needs a full-market signal. 94.1 did decently, though, given its limited signal with classic hits.
I don't know how a variety/personality classic hits station like CBS-FM would affect a rock classic hits station like The Ride, but I'd think it would have some impact.

Keep in mind - Lite has been around for 20 years, and was AC even before that. That's kinda hard to throw the towel in on. But if the numbers don't improve, they'll have to.

Bases off of here in ATL and now CLT, I really don't think CC cares. Its sad!
