Why the importance of looks in radio? Who really cares that a jock is hot or not? No one will listen to Maria More coz she is attractive. If people listen it will be due to her on-air abilities.

95% of the time they're not important. But they do help. Especially when cold cuts are involved.....
 
When Sasha the Diva was doing middays at Kiss 104.1, they took her photo off the website and replaced it with someone who was far better looking. I had met Sasha so I knew for certain that wasn't her picture.
 
This is the works of HOT 107.9 -vs- V103. Steve Hegwood is the new PD at HOT and his first move was getting rid of Pezo "In Da Crib" midday show and shifting it to 10pm-2am. I believe Steve Hegwood was PD of 93.9 WKYS in Washington,DC when Reggie Rouse was PD of 95.5 WPGC in DC as well. Now Reggie is here at V103 and him and Steve are back competing in an Urban battle. IMO, Ramona Dabreaux (formely HOT 107.9, now PT at V103) had the middays on lock on HOT 107.9 and had been there for years. Now, its Maria More going against Porsche Foxx at V103.
 
I agree that being attractive is not essential to good radio/communications skills.
But we are talking "the total package." This is showbiz....everything counts when you are talking about someone in the public eye.
Jocks are constantly doing public appearances....the Morning Mess is on the back of every MARTA bus in ATL. I'm sorry to all the "less than beautiful"(which, BTW, includes me) but sexual attractiveness is *the* fundamental - for men and women(maybe for different reasons) To deny this truth is plain silly.
As wrong as it may be.....attractiveness is part of my "respect equation."

Market Manager Bruce Demps is on a mission over there. He wants to make Hot 107-9 competitive in ratings with V-103. I don't see that happening.

How do you explain Boortz's success then? His picture is on billboards too, and he's constantly doing public appearances.

Might as well explain herding cats.......but I'll try.
I think Neal is one of the last of a dying breed.....the American conversationalist.
Intelligent, opinionated, and quite full of himself, he is the quintessential pontificator. And we are never quite sure where the bulls**t starts and ends.
He does not need physical beauty with his mighty mental prowess......but the show does have Belinda for those unable to rise above base instincts.
As I stated before.....physical beauty is only icing on the cake. You have to have to have the "likability" factor going for you to be good on the air.....and there are plenty of dog-ass ugly folks who are really likable.
Radio is really a good medium for people who should be heard and not seen.
Radio-Info is a good medium for people who should be neither heard or seen(or read.)

Her attractiveness might help in terms of localized social-networking, something a few stations are doing pretty successfully--and not necessarily piggybacking off of MySpace & Facebook to do it.
 
What good performer isn't full of his/herself? You need a healthy self esteem to survive in any media enviroment......just look at how we trash radio folks on this board.
Too many jocks have the "fat kid" mentality and associated lack of self esteem/negativity. Who needs that on radio?? That's what we have television for......

You guys are pathetic...it's "show biz", the entertainment field, don't you get it!! If you're any good at what you do, you promote yourself. Get to know talents in radio before you qualify everyone as being full of themselves, not all are that way.
 
her website is not "promoting herself" it's a freaking online resume. If I were her employer, I'd be asking why she feels the need to put forth that much effort into her next gig instead of concentrating on the one she has.
 
Holy crap. The woman is a utility infielder/outfielder (at least, according to her). Here's the opening paragraph on the site:

"I am a Radio Personality, Artist, Model and Fitness Instructor. I also develop websites, everything you see on this site, was designed by me, I hope you enjoy the new look!"

I'll bet she's a great cook, can tell jokes that'll make you blow your beer out of your nose, and can probably change her own oil, too! Wow. My kinda gal!

Tell ya what else: she really IS talented. I'm not familiar with her, but I just listened to her commercial demo and as a freelance voice talent myself, I'm impressed! She sounds really good!
 
So far she's been on point in the middays at HOT. She's no ATLien, but HOT 107.9 stays in the streets so time will tell.
