Marian Trace Alpha

I know someone who did and was jacked around for untold months. I ordered mine from the factory...just tell them you tried their USA distributor and they couldn't help you. Amazingly, it's no more expensive to order them from Europe. Hint : if you think you'll ever need a second one, order 2...the shipping is not much higher for 2 than 1.

Same thing happened to me....waited for more than two months. Won't do that again. Sent you a PM, Bob, check it if you would.

Got it...

I bought two from Europe. I waited around 5 months! Great cards!

Anyone having ASIO driver problems with Win7 64bit? I've tried using it with Audition, but I could never get it to work right, especially the recording.

Not to divert this thread in any way, but I have been told by a very good authority on Breakaway, that some of the newer motherboards with the Realtek 192kHz audio chipsets will perform about as well as the Marian Trace cards. My understanding is that the cheaper motherboards with DC coupled outputs are the best. Just something to consider in the realm of alternatives...

It may have been posted online. I didn't want to put words in Leif's mouth, but he also mentioned it at last year's NAB. So, how does one find the right motherboards or soundcards?

I remember that it was RealTek (of course, that is common). I also remember to look lower end for the non dc coupled. Maybe AsRock? I'll look around and post here.

I can't even get the non ASIO 64bit driver to work with BBP, results in a BSOD...

If BBP doesn't have a DC coupled sound card to work with, it will overshoot 25-30% on some songs, the worst of which is Three Dog Night - Black And White's first 5-10 seconds. To my knowledge, the only DC coupled sound card is made by Marian.

AsRock is Asus, btw...

I read the data sheet on the current Realtek chip last night. Great specs.

Remember all, I am IT, so I don't have a lot of audio test equipment. I have one of these on my home motherboard. Any way I can test it to see if it's DC Coupled? My MB is really nice. If this one could work, it would be a great one to use.

If it's DC coupled, could you play a 1 Hz tone and watch the output on a scope? If the output is capacitively coupled, it will never work down to 1 Hz.

This test may not be an option if direct coupled boards are bandwidth limited in other ways.

Stereo Tool has a tone generate option. My mod monitor shows it passes 0.6hz at full level but doesn't pass 0.1hz without the BW exciter unlocking. This is using the Marian Trace Alpha. Using ST on any other sound card such prove interesting. There are a very few onboard sound cards that happen to be DC coupled, although they aren't marketed that way. The Marian is the only quality card that claims to be DC Coupled. I **believe** that I recall Leif saying that the Omnia 9 uses a custom made Marian sound card.
