Mariners Renewed on AM 1000 - KIRO Prediction

KOMO morning host Bill Yeend just signed a contract w/Fisher for another 2 years,
as the 'mighty plaza' also renewed the Mariners for the same...

That's the last contract for Yeend as he WILL retire after that...

As the ratings drop, 710 KIRO will either change formats or be sold - Seahawks or not.

Yeah, they'll change to oldies or country.

Just what a 50kw AM station should do to win.

KIRO is NOT dropping talk

There are 5 talk stations in Seattle -- and KIRO does the best of the 5.

Reason #1: KIRO is the Seahawks' flagship.

Reason #2: KIRO has the biggest signal of those 5.

Reason #3: KIRO is not using its airwaves to stir up the right wing.

Was losing the Mariners the turning point for KIRO?

thats about the time frame when they fell from number one. I wonder if both sides would concider a Rush for Mariners trade....maybe throw in David Goldstien for good measure.

Interesting that I still (perhaps based on out-of-date references) think they WANT to be perceived as a news station; but today they are clearly imprinted with many listeners as a talk station.

Maybe that schizophrenia is contributing to the confusion about what the station's primary service is supposed to be?

Since you're such a radio expert, Chucky, I'm surprised you don't know KOMO isn't considered a talk station (all news vs. news/talk), and both KOMO and KIRO have equally strong signals.

KOMO vs KIRO

710 KIRO 'WILL' change formats before (at least) 2009....Seahawks notwithstanding...

Don't bet "THE FARM" on this, but DO bet the milk $$

I'm NOT meaning to sound critical here by any means, but these are absolute facts:

Jane Shannon and Gregg Hersholt DO NOT get along, OK??

Can you imagine how the folks still there from KIRO's heyday
(shares of 9 and 8, AM drive 14) NOW must feel? ...It's gotta be very downhill.

Hersholt's vindictive behavior has contributed heavily towards the darkness over at Eastlake Ave.

The problem with Gregg will not go away until HE does...

Agreed Gregg and Jane are as cozy as Reichart and Burner, but you can't blame Gregg or any other one person for the huge downfall of KIRO's ratings. And if one person could be singled out, it would have to be the idiot PD.

Yes on the Yeend contract - no on the Mariners renewal as Fisher already had a six-year deal in place, and this has only been the fourth year.

Don't know about KIRO changing formats - but here's a safe bet: M's back on 710 in 2009.
