Mark and Mercedez add Sacramento

Starting Monday M&M will syndicate their show to KZZO/Sacramento. The challenge will be to keep the local flavor intact while being general enough to attract Sac listeners.

There good.....Mercedez can add me when ever she wants.....little hottie she does a a TV late on some local channel

For some reason allaccess spelled her name as Mercedez, but I'm pretty sure it's Mercedes.

No surprise but this was a cost cutting move. I saw that the KZZO morning guy was laid off.

What, Kim Kelly not good enough for cowtown??? :D

Didn't Charese also pick-up the P.D. duties for KLLC "Alice" in San Francisco just a few months ago...? Perhaps she's about to become the West Coast P.D. for CBS HOT A/C stations...
M & M may very well be on more stations in the near future......

Since their dull show consists of - and mainly stars - their frantic to-hear-themselves-on-the-radio moronic listeners responding to the rain puddle deep questions these 2 brain-dead DJs spin each day, I think the real challenge is to find listeners either:

1. Stupid enough to consider this good radio.
2. More desperate to hear themselves on the radio than the Vegas dolts.

DITTOS!!!!! While we're at it, why not bring back Mark & Brian(KLOS Los Angeles), Rick Dees, Imus In The Morning, & the "Snooze Busters" also--all MORE ENTERTAINING than M & M! ;D

Yet M&M have been a huge ratings success while all the syndicated shows you mentioned were failures in Las Vegas. In fact Mark&Brian were tried twice here, once on the old KEDG and then a few years latter on KKLZ.. They struck out both times despite how well they did in LA (and still do to this day). Syndicated morning shows have a long history of doing poorly in LV with two major exceptions: Piolin and Howard Stern. Adam Carolla did OK, he would get a good month on occasion.

My impression is that most people who post on here are middle aged males, that's why the topics M&M discuss might not be interesting to us. But young adult women are obviously entertained and that's who their target audience is, so they are getting the job done. I'm sure there are some chick flicks many of the guys here couldn't sit through, they wouldn't be entertaining to us, yet they still have entertainment value to who they are aiming for.

They may have ratings now but their vulnerability lies in their obvious lack of show prep. They frequently comment on and bring up topics to which they have no knowledge about and sound like total fools as they fumble along hoping some desperate caller will fill in the blanks. The show is unprofessional and dull. I agree it is a successful formula since listening to them requires little attention and provides background fill for drive time. That being said, I believe that a station playing music more appeals to this demo and could beat these two easily. And if I had to take a guess at whose ratings will tank the most once Arbitron’s PPM rolls in, I’m guessing (hoping) it’s theirs. They need to step up.

I have totally different guesses. Going by what I have seen in early PPM markets I think MIX will be fine. Hot AC doesn't have a problem with PPM. While I heard any type of jock talk is a negative with PPM, I would guess morning shows are exceptions, especially considering everyone (except JACK) is talking a lot in AM drive, this creates a level playing field. It would be interesting if more stations try going music intensive in the morning. It never worked in the diary system, maybe it will with PPM?

The two stations I think will take the biggest hits in PPM are KVEG and KISF. I base that guess on what I see in other PPM markets. PPM is BRUTAL to hip hop/urban. One example of many is WGCI/Chicago. They were #1 or #2 for decades with the diary and now they are tied for 15th and falling. On the other hand, rhythmic leaning CHRs like KLUC mostly thrive with PPM.

I have seen stations with Regional Mexican formats like KISF take big hits with PPM. Although Mexican Classic Hits actually seems to do better with the meter so KRGT might pick up what sister station KISF loses. KWID should be ok as well.

A format that does terrible with PPM is Smooth Jazz (which helps explain all the SJ defections). However KOAS isn't really doing that great with the diary so (unlike KVEG and KISF) they don't have a lot to lose.

good points Jay.
Fundamentally, I think Arbitron made a huge mistake in the design of the PPM- it looks like a circa 1980 pager. No Hip/hop listener worth their salt is going to think they look cool accessorizing with this plastic POS. I doubt it will attract enough core KVEG listeners to properly represent based on that fact alone. The lame brains that listen to mix probably could care less about accessorizing, so the crime of allowing that crummy station to remain at the top will probably continue. Couldn’t they copy a cell phone design? All the $$$$ these clowns extort from the system and this is the best they can do? I guess they can’t afford a decent product designer. Very lame. Can’t wait for this shock to the system.

I think you're on to something here. They could make the PPM into various accessories to coordinate with listeners' tastes. Make it into a giant belt buckle for the country fans, a Starbucks coffee cup for Hot AC... Maybe a tinfoil hat for the talk radio crowd. ;D
