Mark and Steve to WOC/WMT-AM

I see in the Dispatch that they are moving Mark and Steve to a new morning show starting Feb. 28th, from 5 to 9 on WMT and 5:30 to 9 on WOC, and still host an afternoon show on Q106.5.

I wonder if this is the start of them making changes at KUUL? They are bringing in Tod Alan, who hosted afternoons on Mix 96. I wonder if this is a step in the direction of them changing formats? I could see them moving this Todd in as a temporary replacement for mornings until the next book and then move him to afternoons, or build a morning zoo crew around him and go head to head with Red Hot and Tony Tone on B100, as a Top 40, 101.3 Kiss FM. If they moved him to afternoons, maybe the new Kiss gets Ryan Seacrest in the mornings? I don't know, if I was launching a new CHR in the QC I think I would want a fun live and local team to take on a fun live and local team, not canned crap from LA. But that's just me, and this is just Clear Channel so....

Thoughts?

This has DISASTER written all over it from the WMT perspective. I just don't think the people of Cedar Rapids will accept a show that originates from the Quad Cities. Cumulus tried this a few years ago with KRNA by replacing a local show with Dwyer & Michaels and they got killed in the ratings. The station is still trying to recover from that at least 3 years later as the ratings are embarrassingly low now.

Clear Channel has slowly, but steadily been tearing WMT apart ever since they got their hands on it. If it wasn't for the annual Hawkeyes football ratings spike, they might really be hurting.

makes you wonder who needs kennedy now? maybe another round of cuts are on the way huh? as for kuul, with the corporate VT'ing taking place over there, not much left, and it is underperforming, wouldn't be surprized to see them blow it up.

Does this mean they'll leave Q106 as well?
From what the article says, they will still be on the afternoons there.

They didn't do too bad in the last ratings book, its just my opinion that they can't do this format forever, and I think they know that. Mark and Steve is about the only good talent on air there, so they move them to WOC. Not sure, what happens to Kennedy....I think they need to move on past KUUL, but what would they want to go for? They won't go urban, the area isn't big enough to do an FM talker, maybe moving WOC to FM...wouldn't mind seeing a "Gen X" format. Or go top 40. Would they go active rock to go head to head with Rock 104.9? Is there enough money to go after there or will CC concede the rock formats to Cumulus as Cumulus has conceded country to WLLR?

doing a mindless "Morning Zoo" show, is alot different than covering and KNOWING state, local and national issues. if they are the "Bevis & Butthead" of talk radio, they run the risk of insulting the intelligence of an "informed" Heritage news talk audience, and THEY will not only lose, BUT WOC will lose ANY credibility as a news talk station. makes you wonder.... who was the Moron who thought this was a Good idea?
