Mark Davis: 19 Years And Counting

For those of you who don't know....(Dan Bennett, and the Dickey Brothers)....A Broadcast Legend walks among us....He is Mark Davis.

Mark is celebrating his 19th years as a DFW Broadcaster. Thanks to the outright incompetence of his former management, I have the rich opportunity to be another of "the other guys" who have worked with this Radio Giant. I wrote this on Facebook earlier today....

"Mark, it is nothing short of a privilege to share a Radio Station; 660 AM The Answer with you.

As I have said many times, You are the Undisputed, Undefeated, Heavyweight Champion of Market #5 Radio. That you have led the way here for nearly 2 decades puts you in the ranks of Legendary Broadcasters, not just in DFW, but in the United States.

You are of the ilk enshrined in Broadcasting Halls of Fame across this land. Congratulations, my friend....All of us will brag to our Grandchildren that we know you."

God Bless You and Your Endeavors, Sir....Congratulations!

Ok, who ordered the fluffer?

Envy much?

Mark is a true radio legend here in North Texas and I've enjoyed many a year listening to him. What happened at WBAP was absolute mindless radio stupidity and I'm glad he picked right back up at 660. I don't get to listen to him as much these days due to work but when I get the chance I do.

Dunham and Miller been on the air for 19 years. Norm for more than 30, even Willis Johnson was on the air in mornings for more than 30 years.

I looked at your face every day
But I never saw it 'til I you went away

(I never knew how much I liked him till he moved)

Congrats, Mark! You are Still the One.

This is my first post. I actually found this site a year ago when I was curious about what was going on with Mark Davis. He is one of my favorite talk show personalities, though he does get repetitive and predictable at times. I've been watching the ratings for a year now, and it is obvious WBAP didn't crater like some said it would (at least in overall ratings). Rather, WBAP's ratings have steadily gone up since last year. KLIF is another story.... I've noticed that KSKY's ratings have notched up a bit, but not nearly as much as WBAP.

What I have been curious about is how well is Mark Davis doing in his time slot vs. Ben Ferguson? I'm sure Ben has picked up some fans, and I'm sure Mark Davis helped KSKY, but how much? How much of WBAP's ratings improvements is Rush or someone else? Does anyone have any ratings specific to time slots?

I have not seen any time slot specific ratings. The overall number for KSKY have been up some since he hit the air.
I still run across A LOT of people who simply do not know he has returned to the air and certainly have not heard of "The Answer."
Like it not they need to do a good TV ad campaign. The billboards did not work primarily because the billboards were nearly impossible to read. The "Q: Where is Mark Davis?" is way too small at the top and "The Answer" is red and blue on black - very difficult to read when you're flying by at 50 miles an hour. The "660AM" is the only legible thing. That's good, but likely won't get too many listeners.

Here's a good group discussion kind of on topic. Who are the top 10 jocks on the air the longest in DFW?

Mark Davis?
Russ Martin?
Dunham and Miller?
Norm?

Noticed last night while watching The Texas Daily on KTXD 47.1, Mark Davis announced they will be simulcasting part of the the radio show on TV starting in May. So I guess that ends his weekly appearance on Good Day on Ch 4? No more complaints to Tell It To Tim?

Gotta add Terry Dorsey to the longevity list.

Let's not forget John Dillon who dates back to the Zoo.

Bo and Jim have had a decent run as well, but certainly trail the others that have been mentioned.

Jon Dillon dates well before KZEW. Jon ran KRLD FM 92.5 on tape as an AOR. Prior to that Jon had Coca Cola sponsoring "Montage" on KRLD 1080 that ran 2 hours each evening (7 to 9 or 8 to 10). That was back when most of Dallas/Ft. Worth had the very weak KNUS signal and KFAD from Noon to 6pm as choices for what was then called Progressive or Hard Rock.

Dating myself for sure! I moved to DFW in the summer of '69. The big news about that time was Woodstock and Hendrix and Janis Joplin dying.
