Mark Davis

I'm not in the DFW area, I'm actually in California, but am curious what the general consensus is of Mark Davis in your area. I became aware of him years ago when he was doing a nationally syndicated show on Saturdays, and he quickly became a favorite of mine, even though I tend to not care for national shows as much as local. No, I don't like him because of his political leanings. Sometimes I agree with him, sometimes not, but I think he's an outstanding broadcaster and does a very intelligent and entertaining show. I just recently started listening to podcasts of his current show and am enjoying it a lot.

I know he switched stations awhile back and I also see the station he's on is doing abysmally in the ratings. Is Mark Davis a big name in DFW talk radio, or does no one care?

Yes, Mark is a big name in DFW radio. Cumulus, who now owns his former home, was more interested in saving money when his contract expired.

If you truly enjoy listening to him, don't worry about what his ratings are. 660 AM is still trying to get the word out that he has moved over there, and frankly aren't doing a great job of it.

I really enjoyed Mark Davis when he was on WBAP and listening to him was part of my daily commute. His replacement is several notches below Mark's talent level. Davis, first and foremost, always sounded like a radio guy who talked about politics and realized that listeners wanted to be entertained. He was at his best when he drifted off the political talking points and went down some cul de sac, be it sports, culture or comedy. His talent for doing imitations was quite good and often had me in stitches -- especially E.G. Robinson as Dathan in "The Ten Commandments".

His new hours are such that I haven't followed him down the dial to KSKY but Cumulus still has my ears since I've transitioned to listening to Norm Hitzges on KTCK.

I also think that D/FW has become a poor performing market for news and talk, like many other Sunbelt locales. Off the top of my head, places like Portland, Boston, San Francisco all have some facilities that evidently do well from what I gather in the 6+ PPM numbers. Here you have to dig deep into the rankings to find station with such a format.

You don't have to dig past #8 6+ in DFW to find WBAP. And believe it or not, Mark's replacement has already surpassed Davis' best numbers ever talking about "life" instead of just politics.

Thanks for the info. Sadly, I'm all too familiar with Cumulus' mode of operation since they effectively dismantled one of the former great talk stations in my neck of the woods, KGO in San Francisco.

Fin, I was living in North Bay (Petaluma) when SCUMulous took over KGO, and trashed an excellent station (I didn't agree with the politics, but it was a very well done station) and replaced it with a secondary quality station. They also took a declining KSFO and finished the job.

Grab iHeartradio or TuneIn, and listen to Mark online. His show is well done. He is now on 660 KSKY. (That is what I do- I am now living in South Florida.)

Thanks.... that's effectively what I do. At least Gil Gross landed at KKSF 910 so at least I still can listen to him locally. It's funny, Cumulus has owned KNBR for a number of years and they didn't do too much to ruin it, but they took a hatchet to KGO. I understand changes were needed but to just wipe out a legendary station like that was inexcusable. Fortunately good talent tends to stay employed. I kinda fear for the talk radio format in general though, it seems to be fading with not much interest from younger listeners.

How is Mark doing nationally on friday's when he fills in for Bill Bennet ?
Is the plan Bill Bennet retires and Mark takes over ?
