Mark Down 1 More XMAS Station in CT

It's nice to hear Good English Language Music on 'XCT. I'm not going to get into the whole WXCT should never went Spanish debate again, but I am going to say that the SUPERMAX Spanish Format was horrible. They were supposed to be targetting older Hispanic listeners, but then on Saturday afternoons they'd be playing Reggaeton and FreeStyle, both music styles that target younger listeners. The regaeeton show was hosted by the Program Director's 9 or 10 year old son. The morning show was called "Go To Hell". Then there was the poorly translated to Spanish broadcast of Channel 3 Eyewitness News. The short-lived POWER 990 Spanish format was a little better than SUPERMAX, but they were automated outside of morning drive and the morning show was incredibly cheesey. Everytime the DJ would open his mic to talk he'd play a CD or cart of Cheers and Applause.

If Charlie's CAB Radio Group is unable to or chooses not to renew its LMA for 'XCT in July 2008, I'd like to see the station LMA'd to someone who would progam an Oldies Format on the station.

Wow. Good points. I'd love to see oldies on XCT. I don't want to get into the argument about the Spanish disaster either (except for the fact that they destroyed the place and I'm surprised the building didn't get burned down). I happen to think Charlie's doing an excellent job with the station. I think the LMA will continue... Charlie loves what he is doing there and it shows. I'd love to see Glenn Beck on there-- but there are reasons why that isn't happening...

Yes I think Charlie's doing a good job too. Good points on the station now: The Charlie Profit Show, Dave Ramsey, Bruce Williams, Roylle James, The Money Pit Home Improvement Show, The Handyman Show, and The Italian Show.

Several changes I'd like to see include:

1. A local morning show perhaps a mixture of music and talk, similar to the one the characters in my book host on the fictionalized version of the station. The people on in the morning now are nothing but a bunch of Yentas.

2. I'd also dump the block of health talk shows that air 10AM-1PM and 10PM-12AM.

3. See if it's technically possible to boost the night time signal without having to build another tower.

4. Add play-by-play of Plainville High School sports. (I know someone who could do the play-by-play. He's a Plainville High Alumnist, the only thing is that his brother would have to convince him to drop out of college and return to CT). Apparently they no longer carry Southington High School Football. I tuned in several times and heard regular programming.

5. Redo The Ethnic Programming on Sundays and add NASCAR Racing on Sunday Afternoons.

Here's My Dream WXCT Programming Line-Up:

I like your idea of broadcasting nascar. Its a popular sport and I think wxct would be able to sell some add time for it. I don't think the Church or Polka shows would move their timeslots for Nascar. The Italian show would not be a problem. Just have their show end when MRN (Motor Racing Network) starts its broadcast. The other issue would be money. Would it be in the best interest of management to drop the ethinc programming? Nascar would have to bring in more money than these programs combined.

As a Nascar fan I would love to see 990 take a chance, but from a business stand point. I would stick with the current Sunday programming. More people would watch Nascar on tv then listen to it on radio. Unless someone is driving through the state and they want to hear the race on the radio. I think three other stations in CT broadcast nascar as well. They're located in Litchfield, Brookfield and Putnam. The one thing I'm surpised at is that WATR doesn't broadcast Nascar. They have a local racing show on Monday nights during the season.

Adding more high school sports would be a great addition. What happend with Southington Football? Didn't they make it to the State finals and lose to Greenwich?

There are a few things that can be done to boost the night signal. Processing, Processing, Processing. I want to get my hand into that Optimod. It can be dayparted for night to get the modulation more dense. Could also put a durrough or CRL 500 in front of it. Wouldn't need any changes or FCC approval. Unfortunately the box is password protected and I don't know the password, neither does Charlie. I'm sure I could find out if I pressed the issue, but that's up to Charlie if he wants me to tweak it or not. Back when it was still WNTY, before the Spanish incident, there was an Audioprism in the rack which was the main processor, and that would be perfect before the optimod-- but it appears to be gone now.

I'm not too keen on the 'Talk Radio for Women' mantra. I think it limits the scope of things a bit too much. Something more broad and general would be nice. Something simple and to the point, like say, "Intellegent Talk, Talkradio 99" would be cleaner and simpler, and it wouldn't have such a stigma.

A couple of music shows other than the Italian show wouldn't hurt, either.

BTW, I gave that SM58 to Charlie and he's using it on the air now. Do you notice any difference?

Not to sound rude but why would someone put on a AM station for music when you can just put on Lite 100.5 or Star 99.9 for Christmas Music in Stereo.
