Mark Edwards coments about Beasley

After a caller told Mark edwards on KDWN tonight that they had spoken to the corporate communications director at Beasley broadcasting in Florida who stated she knew of no format change on August 1,Edwards stated his last nightly show would be July 31 and then elaborated that not one member of KDWN air staff had been contacted by Beasley and they are doing every thing top secret. Does Beasley expect every one to show up on August 1? This would be hard since station is vacating the only home it ever had in Plaza hotel. It would be highly professional if Beasley contacted these people and let them know if they have a future with KDWN or else let them get on with their professional lives.

I have also spoken to the CCD @Beasley & have received the very same response. What many corporate radio/tv/newspaper types fail to realize, is that especially nowadays, the information will be dug up somehow by those of us with an keen interest in what happens to the radio station that for many years (in my case 25+!) have provided us in the Pacific Time Zone HOURS of quality entertainment, news analysis, sports/gaming programming, & voices of everyday people who really care about what is happening in our country today. We may be witnessing the last gasps of the classic AM radio station of yesteryear, before corporate ya-hoos took over the industry, MUCH to its detriment!!

I think the plan is to implode the Plaza, kdwn, etc .just joking......will they keep the same call letters? I think if Beasley does one nascar and one nba allstar promotion...they will get 1000's of socal listeners...who will listen driving up from LA and in town...who will be big sports consumers...

Beasley had the heritage FM talk station here in Philly. On the day before the 2000 election, an ex-friend of mine was called into a staff/station meeting. He went into the restroom when he noticed something was weird on air (a feed was available in the bathroom). It was a mechanical voice counting down from 10,000. Right then and there, he knew Beasley was blowing up the station.

So, it seems status quo for them to keep everything under wraps and then just blowing up the station with nary a notice to the staff other than "we just dumped the format, you're all fired"...

NOTE: This station became the short lived "96.5 The Point - The Best of the 80's and more". This never acheived the same success at their "Star 102.7" (and, quite frankly, had a tighter playlist) and then, after a shorter run as a rock-leaning Hot AC, became RCHR "Wired 96.5".
