Mark Holtz Tribute - where to post?

Mark Holtz passed away 10 years ago next month. I have a tribute that aired on KRLD September 8, 1997 and was wondering if anyone knows a good public place to post it so others can download the MP3 file?

I use www.putfile.com to host files. You might like that service if you give it a look. I'm looking forward to hearing the tribute that you have since I didn't get to hear it when it first aired.

Is this the same MH who had some association with the old KLTY (KOJO) during the Rodriquez years?

Are you talking about Mark Holtz? He happens to be one of the best play-by-play voices ever in my opinion. And he did just as well on TV and was one of the most professional and polite people to ever sit behind a mike.

Unfortunately, we will realize and miss the consistent quality of Eric Nadel someday just like we miss the late, great Mark Holtz.

We're very fortunate here in Dallas to have tallents like Mark Holtz, Brad Sham, Eric Nadel and many others past and present.

Holtz was the real reason people listed to the Rangers games. His voice had a "warm" quaility to it. Its a shame we lost him so early. I also agree we'll miss nadel once he decides to retire or passes on.

I have some excerpts from Holtz's call of Kenny Rogers perfect game that I can post later. I was producing Jeff Ward's talk show on KVET-AM in Austin back then, and WBAP fed me some highlights over a phone line the next day. I slapped them into Jeff's show open at the last minute. Unfortunately, I don't have raw copies of them... so everyone will have to tolerate a music bed under them.

If you're really industrious, take out a domain name and set up a tribute website, much like I did for the "other" late Texas Rangers announcer Dick Risenhoover at http://www.knus99.com/risenhoover.html

That way, there's a permanent repository of information, and you should be able to download audio files. I use a basic plan from Virtbiz.com...about $50 a year, plus $15 for the domain name. Very user friendly, and they are local.

Let us know when you get the tribute posted, Jimbo, as i would love to hear it.

Can't believe it's been 10 yrs.

He truly was a one of a kind broadcaster.

Incidentally, I was the first to notify the Ticket of Mark's passing. They hadn't heard, so it was mentioned on the very next ticker. This was long before their "breaking news sounder" was implemented.

Hello, Win Column!!

DAMN. You had to remind me he is gone. I really miss his broadcasts. Hello win column! was great. He was a true sportscasting treasure. The Rangers have had some great talent broadcast their games. Jon Miller, Mark Holtz, Eric Nadel....Wow. God rest his soul...

Let's go back further at old Turn Pike stadium..Bill Mercer, and Don Drysdale.

... with Miss Inez playing the Organ? I remember when I was little we'd eat at Radford's Cafeteria and she would carry on a conversation with people while playing. She was the best...

Wow...I thought Miss Inez went back further than that, to the old Rebel Stadium (later Burnett Field) on Colorado at 35E where the minor league Dallas Rebels/Steers/Eagles (and later the Dallas-Fort Worth Rangers) played. Here's a great link that explains it all: http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/DD/xod3.html

And it was the Dallas-Fort Worth Spurs who played at Turnpike Stadium, 1965-72, then disbanded when the TX Rangers came to town.

While we're on the subject of Holtz and various sportscasters, a strange coincidence here amongst late, local sportscasters...Holtz, Dick Risenhoover and Frank Glieber each died at age 51.

Bet Sham and Lundquist rest easier these days, knowing they made it WELL past the 51 mark.
