Larson thinking about running for office..yikes I don't think so that darn ego hopefully he is not using talk show to build platform and support

Any idea what office he might be considering seeking? Does he support Sanders idea of selling the water supply to Enron in order to "save the cross"? I keep thinking people will get their fill of right wing wackos after seeing how well their nut job political philosophy has worked in real life, but noooooooo, there are always more waiting in the wings.

Find me an on-air person who doesn't have an ego?

But he still shouldn't run.

Larson also works as a snake-oil infommercial salesman. Something
about the guy is just creepy.

Snake oil salesman?
how so? I hope you don't mean that because he's a conservative.

I met Mark at a radio station debut back 96, and he came across as very friendly. Before that I used to listen to him when he was KFMB back in the old days doing his shtick with sound bits. Yeah, he was a bit conservative then, but he must have changed his radio persona for you to call him something like that.

He is hired to do psuedo interviews with people selling
very dubious products..infommercials. Thats the snake-oil
connection. Its just something that I can't imagine Rodger
Hedgecock, Chainsaw, Jeff or Jer, any well known talent
to be actively seeking that kind of business. The FDA is
constantly chasing these guys and closing them down.
Its one thing for a voice for hire to do that kind of work,
but Mark is a pretty well known voice in the market, doesn't
keep him from selling products to seniors and naive listeners
which are worthless. This is a pretty good indicator of Larson's
character.

I respectfully disagree that it says anything about his character. Dick Clark did the same thing for years, as did Alex Trebek, and Ed McMann, but you don't hear people saying the same thing about them, do you?
By the way, all the people you mentioned, Hedgecock, JJ and Hacksaw all do endorsements for products on their shows. I'm not defending him or anybody, but if you are going to catagorize one person because they do endoresments, then you need to write a pretty inclusive list, imho.

You may indeed be right about Mark, but I just don't see how he is different from any other Talk show host or on-air celeb who does endoresments for products. What about the voice-over talents who voice promos for the 20 or so commerical stations in San Diego? Just wait for election season to roll around. For sure, you will hear half a dozen of them doing spots for one candidate or another. Heck, if Mark runs, tell me who is voicing his spots?

Shotgun Tom once said "I'll do voice over for food." I think that sums up the business. I wish I had the pipes for voice work, I'd do them in heart beat!

Yes I agree, and I've voiced stuff I wish I hadn't. Here's the
difference, Jeff & Jer might do a live read for a broker, car
dealer or a Sushi Bar. But their not promoting products which
have not been approved by the FDA. Listeners with
depression for instance will hear about a product from one
of these infommericals and purchase these useless supplements,
instead of seeking professional treatment. it's sleazy Garrett,
I think you would agree.

I guess you got me there.

I can not say what products are or are not approved by the FDA, or whether any of the other people you mentioned (besides yourself) would or wold not pitch such products. But yes, I have to agree that is sleazy. I just have a hard time singling one person out for it.

Mark Larson is a lightweight politically who tries so hard to be Rush Limbaugh-lite with a Ted Baxter kind of voice.

Ted Baxter would only sound like Larson if you stuck a needle up his wazoo. Larson has the naisley and sometimes squeeky sound in his voice. Ted Baxter had the deep rich tones of Johnny Cash.

he got the boot to 6pm to 8 pm only two hours and Dr. Laura moves his 12 to 3 slot yikes

Now with gas over $3.20 a gallon Again I remember him dissing Governor Davis for suggesting that people drive more energy efficient cars than Hummers, he said he was going to go out and buy several. It sure is nice to be totally dependent on Middle Eastern oil isn't it. Ha ha.

Yeah, but it's all politics, and politics changes.
All the conservative talkers were clamering for the Governator. Tell me, what are they saying now (Hint, EIB, Limbaugh institute...).

It's all politics, it's all ratings. They're just playing to their audience.

That's strange given that Clear Channel's KFI in Los Angeles does the same thing...running Dr. Laura between 12 and 3.

Most elections are decided within 5 or 6 per centage points. Anything beyond that is considered a "landslide". Radio can easily deliver that per centage of the population. The sales side will gladly point out that radio is about as persuasive a medium as there is, if not The most persuasive. Yet the programming side will turn right around and say that right wing windbags like Larson or Limbaugh or the rest of that lot are merely entertainment. Its one or the other. I have no problem crediting radio with promoting the economic and foreign policy disasters this country is in now. Radio will either be reformed, perhaps with reintroduction of the fairness doctrine, or the country will continue its nosedive into extinction.

Not so strange. KOGO wants to keep San Diego listeners in the market, not on KFI. This is one reason why AM 640 is stimulated as the 8th station in the market. When people tuned to Dr. Laura live at noon, they stayed with John and Ken as they shampood four markets on 640.

Are you saying that Roger Hedgecock needs Dr Laura as a lead in?
