Mark Patrick Named New Afternoon Host on 1260 WNDE

SPORTS RADIO 1260 WNDE NAMES MARK PATRICK
NEW HOST FOR AFTERNOONS

December 29, 2009- Indianapolis, IN – Today Clear Channel Radio Indianapolis Operations Manager Buzz Casey announced Mark Patrick as the new afternoon host of Sports Radio WNDE. He can be heard weekday afternoons from 3pm – 7pm beginning January 4th, 2010.

"Mark's return to WNDE is a great day for sports fans in Indianapolis." said Rick Green, Market Manager for Clear Channel Radio. "I received so much positive feedback during the week he was a fill-in host for us in December, I knew he was the right person for the job."

"Mark's knowledge, entertaining style and local roots will ensure WNDE's top rank in sports radio in Indianapolis," stated Casey.

Patrick began his radio career at WNAP in 1980, followed by a 17 year stint on WNDE and the Bob & Tom Show. For the past 4 years Patrick was host of Major League Baseball This Morning on XM satellite radio.

"I'm ready to talk about all the things that make the Indiana sports scene unique," said Patrick, "from The Colts & Pacers to Purdue, I.U., Butler & Ball State. It’s even a little extra special coming back to WNDE just in time for the Colts playoff run and then it’s wall to wall ball with March Madness!"

For more information contact Rick Green.

Congrats to the World's Only Elvis Presley Impersonator Impersonator as he was known back in his WENS days...

Job postings mean nothing. They are just there for legal reasons. The real deals are usually made before things are posted.

Yep. That's why you shouldn't get too excited about a job opening posting these days.

He's guaranteed to be better than the hacks we call 'local sportstalk hosts' in Indy. Most of Indy's sportstalk show hosts are minimum wage board ops that stick around after their upaid internship expire because they have nowhere else to go.

I agree with Ho IF.... he puts the effort in, and uses his industry contacts built over the years to bring the guests. Mark's a talent, but he either a) got bored or b) thought the local show was beneath him the last time around [once national syndication came calling], or c)both. Eventually, all we got was Mark's lazy schtick at the end of his last run on this station. That said, he's easily more talented than anyone else on locally right now, and WNDE could clean up if he puts the effort into it. :-*

I agree. But in his defense, haven't we all been there before at one time or another?

As to Patrick, he reached the level of his incompetence as a national host, I'd say, and this is a stop on the way down.

I enjoyed Czaban in the morning, and was sorry to see that he was canned in favor of the shrill Stephen A. Smith. His record of radio and TV failure is well documented, and I would have thought that his track record would have prevented his being hired for any future positions, national or local.

Not that he needs defending, but I'd say that from his start as a character on Bob & Tom and as a VJ on channel 6 latenights back in the early '80s, to his other employment as sports anchor on channel 8 and brief stint on satellite that he's had a pretty productive and interesting career thus far.

His access to events, professional athletes, and national sports figures in general would be something to brag about for most people.

'incompetence'? I'd say sour grapes snorlax!

Over the years Howard Stern has violated FCC rules more than once and brought government scrutiny and heavy fines down on his employers. He was fired by WNBC for his bad attitute. Another obvious incompentent radio guy.

I always heard Mark had a big ego from other people. Never saw it in the time I worked with him. Great guy. Miss him after he left Channel 8. No sports guy in the market with his charisma. Henry Wofford, Colabro? Colabro is okay but patrick was/is great. Not sure why he isn't on tv.

I think the "problem" before was an extreme case of over-exposure. He was on Hoosier Millionaire TV show, (to this day, I crack up at
the thought of the phrase "Thanks, Mark"). Add to that his 2 shows radio (FSR/WNDE mornings, WNDE afternoons), and a few bits with Bob and Tom on the Q, I could see burnout for both, him and the audience. I look forward to listening to him.

He did part of the morning show at WENS for what, a few years? His posted resume doesn't mention that. Also the Channel 8 gig that lasted at least a few years. This was a lot more exposure than any of his radio jobs. The only thing with 8 was that he had more personality than the anchors. 8 has anchors for the most part who can handle most anything. Remarkable when you have people like this who can't handle, " figure skating clip....and Jim, you'd look good in that outfit."

Don't think so, Ho. I'm not in the radio biz, but I have seen similar patterns in my biz.
After reading a couple more posts, I'd also not reject the hypothesis of overexposure.
Snorlax is green, but not with envy! :)

Overexposure? Are Bob and Tom overexposed? Stern? Debbie Knox, at 8 for most of my life? Howard Caldwell? Letterman? This lineof reasoning is feeble minded as it keeps coming up. Being on the air in Indy radio is nothing like television reach over and over. Scott Shannon is 24/7 on radio. With news promos most personalities on TV are on 24/7.

The barking dogs jingle bells is overexposed. Same thing, never changes. Tiger Woods affairs.

From the other comments you may not like Patrick. "On the way down. Incompetance."

Brilliant man. Always thinking. Never at a loss for words. He may be too over the top for some people like you. Too many people not in the business run the business these days. You would make a great group owner.

yeah bob and tom are truely over exposed in offerings by Premire. 12am to 5am overnight best of airing, 5 to 10am live airing, 10am to 3pm midday best of offering. thank goodness CC doesnt air all that in indy. i know WONE in Dayton airs part of the overnight best of Offering.
